Mass Effect 1 and 2 are all about the story. If all you are interested in is the game mechanics, I'd play WoW, Diablo, or something else. Or, actually, Fallout 2 would be a good bet, though if you don't want to deal with the story, play Fallout Tactics (available cheaply online).

So would this be possible some day? I know that flintlocks can be fairly common in fantasy/magic settings, though some settings (like Forgotten Realms) absolutely eschew them. Not sure where Elemental fits, but I'd love to be able to research up to black powder weapons and march a line of musketeers against a summoned Demon and army of Doom Hammer wielding armored brutes.
I apologize if this was already pointed out, but I don't have time to read 8 pages of posts. Some complain that Stardock has us paying for an enormous beta. But you know what? Elemental will be super amazing in about 3-4 months and that simply could not happen without input from actual players. No matter how smart or good a dev team is, they simply don't have the manpower (or objectivity) to play their own game to the breaking point. Only real players
See, I had enough experiences with games that didn't work as well as they should have back in the day that I'm much happier with Impulse, Steam, D2D, and the rest. Look at the kinds of games it allows! GalCiv2, the new game Star Ruler, and Elemental--these are glorious games that became or will become awesome only have ripening in the glow of fan criticism and feedback. Stardock is MUCH larger than the 2-man shop that is making Star Ruler, but indie games (and yes,
Good example of why there are so many "fanboys" of Stardock and Brad. They deserve them. At any rate, I agree--this is way better than GalCiv2 was when it first came out, and even that was fun. What he said about the state of gaming is true. People expect more spit and polish on the first run because of so many console games. What you sacrifice is anything approaching depth. A good example of this is the abominat
Finally, remembered my password. I've been a long time Stardock fan (I believe my Member Number will bear that out), but I haven't posted in a long time. I only want to add or say a few things: for a completely "broken" and "unplayable" game, I've certainly spent so much time playing it that I haven't bothered to post about it. I have a feeling that's true for more people than Stardock gets credit for at the moment. This happens EVERY TIME a game is rel
Yea, this is a serious problem. It's happening to my friends and I too and since Sins is my current favorite game, it really sucks! I want to play!
Wow, what an obnoxious post (the OP, that is). SD/IC, you do know that people like this tend to be isolated from what I like to call "reality." So I agree with Annatar--too bad you even had to waste your time reading this thread.
Weird, I've never really had any problems with Impulse. Of course, I never had any issues with SDC either. The one weird thing that Impulse does is that it usually doesn't start the first time I run it.
Something needs to be done to fix the mines, especially the Vasari mines that can be used offensively. Nothing is more irritating than being attacked by a bunch of Ruiners that then proceed to, well, RUIN my system. It wouldn't be so bad if scouts actually continuously detected the mines so my fighter garrisons could clear them, but there is a clearly a bug that makes the mines pop in and out of detection, making the fighters move in a herky-jerky and very slow path towards them.&
First people complain that certain units are useless, they get fixed, THEN they complain that the same units are now too powerful. The carriers are better now, so wouldn't it follow that you should counter with flak units (which are now truly necessary since fighters/bombers are better) and with carriers of your own, with direct fire as your backup. This is how it works in current naval reality, so I see nothing wrong with the new balance in Sins. It's certainly better than
You know, I have to say, Brad, that despite having Fallout 3 at my house, Gears of War 2 a few Amazon clicks away, and countless other "new" games to play, that I've found myself, quite "by accident" simply playing GalCivII 2.0 for hours and hours and hours. It's finally replaced MOO2 for me, which is no small achievement. So, way to go, if you would make a GalCiv3 and take SOME of the ideas from the MOO series, I think you'd have the Game To End All Games.
If you run your own company and can't do what you want, what's the point? I think this is the greatest post ever by Brad, and there have been many awesome ones.
Huh, uofadave--I'm playing a fresh install of TA and I'm playing Terran Empire with the level above Tough as my difficulty. No, I'm not winning (I've never been one of the amazing players), but I have had no trouble getting my economy up and running. And while I'm still using Xeno Labs, I can research most simple techs in 1-5 turns. I honestly don't know if you are seeing a weird bug caused by a messed up install or if you just really, really, really don't get it...
They were definitely 2:1 for me in the MP game I just played.
Yes, I love that resource asteroids are randomized again. Yea for Asteroids with 4 extractor slots!
Nevermind, my other post didn't die after all...
[quote]Wow Innociv that's interesting point. I wonder if that's why they changed antiverylight damage to do less vs light, in order to buff bombers. Which makes it stupid as hell because now you cant use fighters vs lrms and you cant use flak as well as before, so to counter lrms I have to tech to HC? WTF? It makes very little sense. And now u will probably have a better chance of using bombers vs flak. Any scenario where bombers counter flak is a retarded one! Why would you make bombers ef
innociv, piece of advice, for free even. Stop acting like you are the God of Sins. Stop coming down from your Ivory Tower on the High Mountain and proclaiming Your Word As Law. It's seriously annoying. Maybe you don't act this way in real life, but you should know that real people do not react well to arrogant, condescending, self-righteous individuals. They just don't. You may be right, you really might be. But your presentation is severely lacking. Moreover, are you
I sent the OP a private message about this, but I thought others might like to hear the answer. Is there a way to combine these two mods so they can both be used? I'd love to do that, and then have my 3 friends who I play this game with do the same thing, and hopefully we could play online with both mods enabled! Thanks!
I would love to see the graphical enhancement mod put together with at least Sins Plus by Uzii.
Ummm...Sins is not a hardcore strategy game. You will not find Combat Mission style game mechanics here. Believe it or not, many people do not like Combat Mission or games like it. There's a reason the "hex-based wargame" is effectively not a genre anymore. Personally, I tried hard to be a "grognard" and like those games, but I just couldn't do it. I'm sure someone has a good computer version of Squad Leader 2 or something, but Sins is not that game.
Yea, or don't play on fixed, small maps. But I guess they have their place--short games with random people online are probably the bulk of MP games. Still, it's a shame, because the RT4X quality of Sins does not really appear in fixed, small maps. Playing Sins that way is basically Starcraft with spaceships.
My opinion, for what it's worth. I mostly like the way cap ships are now, but I agree that they die a little too fast and don't kill quite fast enough. I think the best fix for this though is a slight change in damage types. The simple fact is that Capital type damage stinks. I think what it should do is 100% to Capital, keep the 25% to Very Light (indicating that it's hard for caps to bring their huge guns to bear on fast little fighters and bombers), but do much more damage to th
That was awesome.
