I just deleted the GalCiv4 folder in my documents and now I have Factions turn 1. Something in the legacy game data appears to affect it.
What race are you playing?
No luck. I tried to start a new game and that didn't help either. Any new suggestions?
I started a new game as Drath and now I too have only "Name" for each of the 4 factions. My previous games on .70 were as Baratak Grove and Corporate Sector, and they were able to assign leaders to factions, but I didn't check for that on the very first move. So maybe something is unlocking them?
I must have a bug. None of my factions have names.
I'd recommend you do a verify files to make sure you don't have any installation problems. The columns should at least be labeled.
I am unable to assign anyone to a faction. Is there a prereq?
In my current game I am unable to assign a leader to the Endless Emporium. Hovering over the header of that column shows a tooltip that says that a Minister of Finance is required. There may be similar requirements for the other 3, but since I'm already able to place leaders there the tooltip isn't showing me requirements anymore. Edit: I just started a
Baratak Grove's Spore ability does not seem to give any production input points points to the planets in the Baratak home system. They both got resource deposits, but no industry, technology, wealth, farming or influence.
Known bug. They show as 0/0/0/0/0 until you colonize the planet. So you don't know what you're going to get until you colonize, but that will be fixed.
I decided to try out one of the Galactic Achievements, and activated Penultipox. The objective is to build or trade for a wonder that can cure the disease. Since I had already researched Xeno Biology, the Plague Research Center was immediately available to build, and I built it on my home world. The negative affects on my planets are gone,, but the achievement did not complete. It's still appearing up on the left where the missions do, the Galactic Achievements window shows it at 0% com

There needs to be a way to see which of your colonies have resources on them, more quickly than clicking on each colony in turn on the galaxy map. I just got the Precursor Archeology tech, which allows me to build Orbital Precursor Nanites, and now I have to go click on all of my colonies to find out which have Precursor Nanites.

Since the XML data is baked into the saved game, it's usually recommended to start a new game on an update like this.
The problem is that the Social Matrix is reported to be for Altarians. Since I'm not Altarian, should Altarians be used here? Maybe use Altarians and Drath or maybe something else?
Maybe it should say all Ancient races?
I've already mentioned that with the removal of the ascension icon from the galaxy window top bar it's impossible to tell how close to ascension victory you are. So it's clear that the game is going in the wrong direction as far as communicating victory conditions goes. I have to agree with the @Sedghammer - ever since it was introduced, all of my victories have been prestige, and it hasn't been clear to me why my prestige score is increasing either.
They don't initiate conversation, and I get nothing when I click on their planet.
I don't have one in my current game, so I can't check this, but if I remember correctly, you have to click on their planet, then when the planet window displays in the lower left part of the galaxy window, click on the top most icon attached to the right of the planet window.
I haven't tried Abundant. I've been playing with "Occasional" and I see a minor maybe once every five games or so. So it would seem the devs do need to look at this.
My meaning was that the cost is the technologies.
Ah, ok, yes I did misunderstand you. Sorry.
What is your setting for minors in the galaxy settings?
There could be technologies that automatically upgrade all shipyards (less micro-management, good for all core worlds)
Past experience in GC games has show that this type of auto-upgrade has to have a gameplay option to disable it, as automatic upgrade quickly uses up resources that the player might wish to use elsewhere.
Yes, there's a tech you have to research. It's in the manufacturing branch.
That surprised me too.
If nothing else, I would love to see a way (galaxy size or type or even game mode) to allow some type of empire formation (via Explore and Expand) PRIOR to the Exterminate portion kicking in
The GC4 Alpha .65 release currently has a starting option where you can start alone in your sector. You (and the AI) will have to research two techs to be able to travel to other sectors to meet the other races.
Hmm, in .65 I can't assign a Governor from the Governor screen itself.. no problem dragging an available leader, but won't attach to any available planet... it does work on the main screen by selecting the planet and hitting the Governor button though.
I agree, dragging and dropping the governor from the governor screen is very iffy. I think I get it to work about a third of the time, otherwise I have to do what you di
Is this still the case? You have to chose between mining a resource and improving approval for instance?
As of the .65 alpha (released under the test branch) all star bases mine resources. No more mining rings.
After this morning's update I no longer see the darkspace ring. Meanwhile, my feedback copied from Discord: <span style="font-family: Whitney, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: left; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: break-spaces; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-thicknes
Derek said on the GC Discord that the problem is with the build for Epic, the development build is working fine. He's investigating.
From the .65 changelog: Colonization events only occur 10% of the time now.
