Hello all! We've pushed this update from Insider to live, and have added additional updates and consolidated all changes into their respective subsections above
Will there be another update today? I am holding off on my current game which is 1.55, but was curious if any new changes will arrive which necessitates a new game.

I like the proposed changes. I look forward to offering feedback.
Thanks Derek! I know Stardock has many projects and it is nice to see one of their flagship releases still being updated!
Large ship hull logistics reduced from 8 to 6. Huge ship hull logistics reduced from 16 to 12.
Why the reduction in logistics? I am all for it, as I was manually reducing it, but curious what you found and why. Thanks for the update Derek!
Excellent changes. I fired up a new game after adding all the new civs found in the Forge/Mods area! Thank you for adding the Snathi and some of the Star Control races! Need Jeff and his followers! Praise Jeff!
I am not very far into this game. Attached is game save file and it crashes after monster attacks and kills the probe. https://www.dropbox.com/s/jevk85untlm7ujv/Crash%20on%20retrofitting.zip?dl=0
That is great. I am in the camp of NOT nerfing stuff if it can be avoided and instead making other races on par with a special ability. You and the team do a great job of listening to us the community and are slow to slam the nerf bat onto features/races. Have Cari uh, make the Drengin a bit more 'warlike/agressive' and maybe some cool 'Drengin feature' If I was going to play a non custom race (and I never do) it would be the Drengin. Ive always loved the Lore of them and their 'Might
The Mimot are good. But I disagree with the basic thrust of the argument. The Mimot don't need to be nerfed - nothing in the above suggestions make them more fun to play. Rather every other civ needs to be similarly OP in their own unique way. Generally speaking, food is not a strong limiting mechanic in GC4. It would help matters if it were more important, every empire s
The Mimot are indeed very good. Cari did an amazing job with them. I agree above that they should be pushed into a need for more food and be forced to move more production resources to keep food up or morale should tank (and production/economy) with it.
Quoting Larsenex, reply 2 Excellent update. Woot, look at those hit points go up! Question for the team. Off the top of my head Ship Regen is a flat HP amount (1-2hp/turn). Is this going to get bumped or changed to % per turn instead?&nbs
Excellent update. Woot, look at those hit points go up!
Greetings Gal civers, I have a razor death adder. I have updated drivers and use razors calibration tool. In gal civ I can use the middle mouse wheel to rotate both the galaxy map and the ships I create in the designer. This is critical to gameplay as I need to add items UNDER ships and need this feature to rotate in any direction to get to these areas. I can always use this feature in early game. Right now I am at turn 144 and it is completely lost. Has anyone els
I agree with Basilisc on this. Its beta, accept it or leave it alone for a while. So far according to Epic I have several weeks ( not hours) of play time. The game runs and plays very well for me and to be honest the viewer is so recent I never use it. It's not at GVIII level of polish so not gonna worry until they spruce it up. I remember when techpods were needed for everything from Starbase modules to planetary upgrades. It's a good change to how it is now.
Great changes here!
Great update. I like that the Battle Viewer is in this iteration. There is a LOT of substantial improvements here and the game was already light years ahead of III. Great job Derek and Team. On a side note. I love the Galactic Events. I love that you added more. I think they are so cool that a DLC could be made for them or some similar thing like Xcom did with some outfits (free DLC at release) not sure if this is still a thing or not.
Derek, What does this line mean? Does it refer to ships within the ship designer? Made "Upgradedable" a ship stat so that modders can control what ships they want to make upgradeable (or if they want to make all ships upgradeable).
This list is SO good I am going to halt my game until this comes out. Um, will retrofitting ever come back possibly in an expansion/DLC?
Gauntlet, Great to see you again! Will you be creating your race mod for Gal Civ IV? I am still hoping to get a way to retrofit old ships into new ones. I play at a slightly faster tech pace than most folks and having a way to update ships would be very handy.
What is your definition of upgrade? Adding things to the ship after it gains the UP arrow of experience, or actually retrofitting it to a better vessel?
I researched interstellar trade and got the one free trade-ship. However the trade module used to build traders and allow the player to build his own custom trade ships is not available. Is this intended?
Cool! I am soo looking forward to this patch! Thanks Stardock!
Do we have a change log for .71?
This is a huge change. I am glad players have a pathway to add more stuff to their ships. New technology: Flexible Bulkheads: +1 component slots to all ship sizes. [uncommon] New technology: Extreme Miniaturization: 1 + 25% more component slots to all ship sizes. [rare]. Will 'retrofitting' be coming back or is it tabled for now?
Greetings and Happy New Year Stardockians! I was discussing with a friend the fact that it seems the ability to retrofit ships with new tech has been removed. We talked and realized that if you have a fleet of 1rst gen tech that flies around with a surveyor (which I always do), those fleets can typically amass some experience in times of peace. Now those ships are tooling around in archaic space lasers and bare naked defenses. Take a ship that has amassed say level 8 e
Lots of nice changes. I love your work on the ai!
