Just summited my game Score: Overall 7134 (322) Soc 3145 Tech 113 Eco 2374 Military 502 Never fired a shot. Cultural victory ! Fun to play again at that difficulty level: i was probably too cautious...

IMHO the easiest solution would be - Spending sliders for each governors and/or - reducing the unused production wasted This would prevent any micro-management ~SDC~
I've read somewhere in this forum that the "re-evaluation at game start" was intentionnally put by Stardock in order to prevent the player to reload an auto-save when in such situations. I'm not sure it was ever confirmed by Stardock. As for the AI "ganging up on you", it might come from your military threat level. I still have to see an AI declaring war on me when my military might is greater than 2/3 of its (except by event). Of course, take this supposition with great caution, as
[Playing Gigiantic/Masochist] In my last 2 games, the Arcean AI is visibly better in "pseudo-fleet" management. I've seen a "fleet" of 4 Combat transports escorted by 1 dread many time. But it does not mean it was more successfull in invading planets. On the "AI can't win topic" It is too true. The AI can win if: - you have a VERY bad starting position (each CTRL-N should be counted as an AI victory ;p - Human fails to build up his Military might le
Popup: you said "I'll usually restart if Earth isn't at least PQ 18, or if a minor race starts in the same sector as Sol.". Strange after what you answered me in the "Leapfrog" thread ;) (Just kidding, I know the importance of distance in trade, but I've just read your answser and could not resist the pun...Sorry) Hunterose: The major reason of my Ctrl+N is a neighbour to close to me (I'm playing Gigantic/Masochist) because I don't like to go early on war and love to have some time to
Popup: Waow ! Impressive. I'll try that next time. Too late for my current game (Gigantic/Masochist): I had to invade the last surviving minors before they were invaded by majors and I could not afford to provide them with ships as I was struggling myself to keep a high military level to prevent the "boosted" Arecean from declaring war. A very interesting game where I am 2nd behind the Arcean that began with a fabulous starting position and have more planet/pop than me. Also interest
I'm pretty sure it is range. ~SDC~
LDiCesare, If they are in the middle of my empire I'd rather have their (usually) juicy planet(s) right away. And they are not a worthy trade partner being so close to me. They are also usually rather difficult to absorb culturally later in the game. Remember, we are talking "Gigantic" in this thread. Plenty of other minor can become my cash cows ~SDC~
I usually plau Huge/Gigantic (to give me some time to build up peacefully) Habitable Rare (to reduce micro management) ~SDC~
You are wright. The option is only at the planet level ~SDC~
I agree with amost everything you've proposed and did it myself when I was playing at that level (except maybe that I won mostly by Culture... older version through...) But you know, the most exciting with that game, is that this perfect strategy will no longer work when you'll play Crippling/Masochist and you discover that the fist AI you meet has something like 10 more tech that you... And that only strenghten your point (What you learned from Dubya): better stay away from REALLY
A lot of good strategies here (and not as contradictory as it seems). Here is mine. - Send the initial Colony ship in the direction of the possible future border (being only 100M, its major purpose is to extend my reach - Send the Survey ship in an other direction (also a possible future border) - produce 1/2 scouts (depending on the configuration). The first one is sent in the same general direction that Col Ship 1. A side goal is to put the Survey ship into survey mode ASAP so
I joined the Gamma Squad empire because of the members (Java Scout, Solitair to name a few...). It was fun at the beginning but now that the Metaverse scores seemed to be screwed up, that a lot of people can not/no longer submit their scores (I personnaly lost my first 4 games), it is more a nostalgia. ~SDC~
But, strangely enough, I am still commander... ~SDC~
I've just done what has been suggested and reregistered my player in the metaverse. And now... my new game is OK :) but the 4 previous one are gone !!!! :sniff!: :sniff!: :sniff!: ~SDC~
Same for me. 4 first OK, last 2 just don't appear. ~SDC~
"But the survey ship is important in the early game due to its extended range, on the larger maps at least. " Granted :) ~SDC~
AFAIK, destabilization indeed affects ennemy morale. But that does not mean that their morale should be lower. It means that the AI might lose money in keeping the same morale level (by decreasing tax rate/building resistance improvement/using propaganda)... Herve ~SDC~
Za01phod - I rather create a scoot on Turn 1: It is faster than a Survey ship. IMHO you should not rely on survey ship for early exploration (except turn 1 and 2) - Playing on Huge/Gigantic galaxies, there are plenty of anmalies which can end up in providing a ton of bonuses. Kind of unbalancing IMHO especially because the AIs often lose/trade their initial survey ship and never bother to build a new one. I've just finished a game on Gigantic/Crippling and reached Beyond Human before I c
What ? Olaf are you insinuating that my preferences (Gigantic galaxy- to be safe at the beginning, Rare planet- to have more planet than the AI thanks to my PlanetQuality bonus giving me access to 14 and even 13, and my Tech victory goal) make my score overated ? How dare you ???? LOL Seriously, I agree with you, I don't see a significant difference when I choose a higer severity level and I should. ~SDC~
I think Brian is talking about the ability for starbases to attack by themselves. The problem is (as Alf mentionned) that the GC comabt system ask you to "move to your target" in order to attack it. Therefore it is not possible for a "non terror star" starbase. So, your suggestion, Brian, implies to create "Range Weapon". Something completly new and very unlikely to appear before a new major version is released. Herve ~SDC~
Nope (:( ~SDC~
Hi Brad, My problem with starbase is not that you can build a ton of them to obtain insane bonus on one planet. It is more that during peacefull endgames you end up producing tons of them. Why? because it is the only usefull MAINTENANCE free military production. It is funny to create a "ship catapult" or a string of Trade enhancers starbases and all those strategies are usefull but I often end up playing "Sim Starbase" about 66% of my time when all I want is to reach beyond huma
Cordinating forces Hard to give any precise tips, I usualy have - a dreadnough only fleet (with maybe the few avatar/overlords i can afford and the battleaxes i forgot to scrap) - defending fleet on the system closes to ANY AI civ (even if friendly) - attacking fleet is dreadnough sometime with a terror star maxed out with defense/attack/influence modules - 2nd line is composed of Combat transports escorted by Dreads - More and more often I also have a 3rd group with a b
