Auto-Survey question

Silly question here, but how exactly do you "Auto-survey?" I'd love something like that for later in the game when I'd rather concentrate on other stuff. Also, is it just me or do new "goodies" randomly appear in the universe as old ones are "discovered?"

Double click the survey ship, or click the (i) button down by the ship details, select auto-survey.

Annomalies do randomly appear in the universe. On the larger galaxies you seemingly never run out, on smaller galaxies you occassionally run out of things to survey. If that happens just send your ship into orbit and it will automatically leave orbit to explore when new things pop up, as long as auto-survey isn't disabled due to giving it a guard command or similar.

Thanks for the answer - I'm not a total idiot, just a bit slow today! Yeah, that's the ticket...

One more question for yah: what exactly are guard and sentry supposed to do? I know they trigger if another ship appears nearby but other then that, I can't exactly figure it out...

Guard - ship stays where it is until enemy ship is in the same sector/range.
Sentry - ship stays where it is until any other ship enters the same sector/range.

Not sure if its sector or sensor range that is the trigger, haven't monitored the behavior enough to be 100% sure.
