I also noticed that there's an additional $10 charge for shipping the CD, making the total $39.95. That's awfully pricy shipping costs for a CD in an envelope. Unfortunately, my internet speed isn't fast enough at home to download a file this large and I would have to order the CD. Thus I would be paying $39.95 for an expansion. Sadly, I'll have to pass on this one :-(

I'd like to see an option under diplomacy to tell the AI to remove their ships from my controlled sectors. I realize it's been said that theoretically space has no borders, but what about at least giving the planets themselves an orbital border, ala starbase AE. If opposing forces or any outside forces come within its range then the option to tell them to take a hike so to speak becomes available under the diplomacy screen. The AI’s ability to amass a fleet of warships near one of my systems

Let me ask you this, and thanks for your help Vinraith and Kryo, but is the patch worth the trouble even, based on what I've heard about defense being too powerful, trading techs now too tough, save crashes, etc.? Should I just wait for the next one? I have to admit, I can get away with a minimal patch download over my work computer's broadband, but downloading a 200+ app in its entirety may alert the bandwidth police at city hall, less I wait till late when the tech dept is go

Well sounds like a pain, but doable, however, let's throw another wrench in the cog. I purchased retail, and not the downloadable version. I'm starting to have flashbacks of Valve and their infamous STEAM headache. And no, I really don't want to have to, nor should I, bring in my game and install it from the disc. This is my work computer (government), and while downloading a brief patch is acceptable, installing an entire game along with SDC then having to download an update, archiv

Any ETA on a straight release of the 1.5X patch? I've tried updating at home through SDC and without broadband the process is too slow if not impossible. My at-work computer, which has its own T1 will be much better Thanks.

Two weeks in with DA and I feel I need to add yet another positive onto the gaming fire. The Devs at Stardock have earned it. I’m not a numbers-cruncher like some of you buggers, but I have to say that like with other things new, give it time. The more I play DA the more I come to appreciate its richness of challenge compared to a highly comparable DL. At first for example, I thought I might not like espionage in its latest flippant fashion sense, but then well into my current game I

I recently had a scenario where espionage worked brilliantly. I had colonized a heavy gravity 19 planet named Ratha I within my neighbor, the Terran Alliance’s backyard. They had possession of the system’s two remaining planets, Ratha III with high PQ and the other, Ratha II of lesser quality, thus dominating the sector. Further into the bout for influence, as I lacked the military might necessary to simply wipe them out, and I wanted to avoid open war if I could, my planet Ratha I dipped in

By the way, what's the hot-key for the galaxy map popup? I think Frogboy said it was added later, after the hot-key card went to print. Thanks.

Isn't the AI specifically designed to at times behave erratically, like a human player might, making silly mistakes such as unescorted troop ships, etc., though all the while still providing a challenge? I mean, it’s supposed to simulate a humanistic multiplayer experience, right?

How many times do you force yourself to re-read them? I mean after the first few times, which I'll admit made me laugh causing me to appreciate their humor, I hadn't a need too keep reading them over again. I just see that I gained a new toy to play around with, and move on to researching the next. I can appreciate the mirth, it's refreshing.

Installed fine, works fine, and plays great! The retail is the 1.5 version, and no further updates were needed for now. I went ahead and uninstalled the old GalCiv2-CE, just to make sure I'd have a clean install of Gold DA. Anyway, Stardock, you did a spectacular job on this expansion, and it seems to be all that I'd hoped it would be. Thanks again for your hard work, and like me, I'm sure many other PCer's out there appreciate your focused efforts. Now, back to strengthening my empire and

Okay, just picked up my copy of Gold at Best Buy...excellent. A few questions first, however. Am I good to go as far as updates, or once installed from the discs will I need to update to 1.5 (I work from dial-up so updating is slow unfortunately)? Also, is it best to go into Stardock Central and uninstall my original GC2-CE, or should I just install and overwrite it with the GC2-DA Gold edition? I have to say, the cost of the Gold retail was only $39.99 USD at Best Buy. I'd expected

I think I may have answered my question. In the diplomacy screen of Kralax I can see Laser IV listed in the tech list. So I guess the milestones are there as merely a menu streamline (less visible clutter), and not an actuallity of tech goods per say. Thanks.

Well done Stardock, well done. I'm looking forward to this expansion. I do have a question however. How will having milestones for techs instead of say Laser I, II, III, etc., affect trading those techs? Will we be able to offer milestones, or will we have to trade the tech as a whole? Just curious. Thanks for all your hard work. Keep the fun alive!

Mistralok said --"So what are you trying to say here, Jarl? You're pissed because the disk will be coming to you in an envelope rather than a cardboard box? You are a freaking idiot."-- There are certainly too many other pertinent issues going on in our world today to get pissed about a computer game, so to answer your most intelligent and well thought-out accusation, no, I'm not an idiot, less of course you're twelve, in which case, most juveniles do consider adults as being idiots--ti

This isn’t intended as a slam against Stardock. They’ve been the most loyal developer to its customers I’ve ever witnessed in my many years of PC gaming, but is just my two-cents worth, which may or may not be off base. So, I’m to understand that they save profit margin by avoiding publishing costs, distribution and packaging of DA for retailers (I'm aware of the Gold addition, which is inconvenient as I'm made to purchase a second time, Dread Lords, then mail in a rebate to get back t

Part of the nostalgia for me when it comes to Dread Lords is the memory of the good feeling I had when driving home on a sunny day in the spring time with the windows down and the sounds of the radio wafting on the breeze, right after picking up a collector’s edition from my local friendly neighborhood Wally World. Having the day off from the hustle and bustle of work, the wife at home with a fresh apple pie in the oven, and a newly unexplored gaming experience nestled inside its silvery crisp,
