I don't think anything is wrong. I'm not sure, but I believe the economics were changed between DA and ToA. As far as suddenly making 5,000 per turn, it sounds like you had one of the economic mega events occur, such as the tourism increase or opening the trade market. Either one will increase the income from the activity in question by 5 to 10 times at least. I had the tourism one occur recently, and by the end of the game, I was making 27k per turn!

The game balance was changed for TA, and an increasing cost had been applied to Techs later in the game. Long Story

Upshot was the result you experienced. For now they have rolled back that tweek, make sure you are using V1.95, download from Impulse or SDC, and you will not get the draconian increases, it has been reverted to the old status Quo. They are still addressing the Tech cost balance, but for now have reversed the changes connected to Tech costs to back to what it was.

Yes, I do notice money goes up when mega events happen, but more often then not, I can be dominating, making 500 credits, then suddenly for no reason I'm losing 1000 or more.

It makes no sense.

I do do some things that would possibly cause this. My strategy is first to be neutral, diplomatic, and quickly gain as many planets as possible, while having those planets build colony ships, while amazing (and trading) for techs.

I never let anyone have any tech if they could use it against me. No doom rays for enemies, plasma weapons, etc.

When I have enough tech, I use my massive amount of planets to beging building a dominate military force.

The problem is, I watch my money all the time, it makes no sense why suddenly I'd be losing over 1000 when the week before I gain 100.

Btw, the time to start building military usually comes when I've made the choice to align with good, and evil ones start to get mad at us

They come into the war with us having a military power of 0 and the biggest amount of people. In a few weeks, we have more military power.

I also never go after the enemy at once, just keep building military. When your the biggest military and the most people, your comrades usually surrender to you if they lose.

After a few comrades losing, you end up pretty much unstoppable.

At the last count, my Terran's own over 65 percent of the galaxy.

To note on what GW Swicord said, that 20k soft cap isn't new in TA.

The other thought, if it wasn't for the treasury, was that you just got a new upgrade for a planetary improvement and tons of money was being used on social projects.

The 20k soft cap is your culprit though.

The thing I don't get is why in the first game I ran out of money.

Are things spent differently this go around? I did pretty much the same thing I'm doing now... With way different results.

Is this game alot based on random events?

The 20k thing comes up regularly on the forums, and quite a few of us around here find it frustrating or worse.

I would eliminate it if I could (or at least have it scale with map settings), but I have some sympathy for one of the more popular supporting arguments from other posters: a limit of some sort tends to force the player to remain actively involved in production decisions throughout the game.

If nothing else changes, it would at least be nice if a pop-up during turn processing that warned you the first time you incurred the penalty. People shouldn't have to hit the forums to understand something this important for larger-map games.

Anything above the 20k mark would then get sent in the usual tiny little blue-book, printed at the ATM regularly and even, be dependant on the regular Interest-Rates ability.

I've noticed the game is fairly glitchy. Or am I the only one where if a fleet of ships enters an asteroid field suddenly it can only travel 1 space per turn until I break up the fleet through the fleet manager and rejoin them together? Once even this fix didn't work and I was forced to sell the ships.

I loaded my game where I was researching advanced barren planet colonization or whatever (I had about 5 turns left) but when the game started I had ALL the various planet type colonization techs. But I was still researching the advanced barren one. I wasn't complaining, but seriously wtf.

I used the map editor to make a map, but it simply crashes when I load it into the game.

Also I put the AI on bright, but it's anything but. I've been fighting a massive campaign agains the most mentally deficient AI I've ever seen. He was dominating 70% of the largest map and is now down to 40%. His "strategy" is to send unprotected colony ships into my territory so that he can colonize a planet, and then I can immediately take it from him. He's ranked as the most powerful civ, above the dread lords (who randomly showed up with two ships never to be heard from again) but has not put up any kind of fight for the entire game. The only ship he has that does any damage is a precursor corvette that landed in his lap. But instead of wiping out my entire military force and all my starbases with (which he could, easily), he spends his time waddling around the edge of my territory with it.

I usually don't bother with formal bug reports unless my game is crashing as I assume devs are aware of things like this. Play the game at all and you'll run into things like this. Or else this is really all just me?

Those screenshots aren't that impressive. ToA has drastically changed. You should pay attention to the details on the new buildings.

The issue is on entering, and even after leaving, the asteroid field, my ships can only travel one space per turn. Permanently. That's their max moves left: One. Forever. Until you do the fleet trick I described.

More bugs I've seen:

-Korx show up on my stats legend, but they aren't even in the game I'm playing. I think it's supposed to be the Arceans. Or else the prompts about "the arceans did this or that" were wrong. I haven't actually even met them yet.

-After my wacky "free advanced colonization techs" incident, I've realized that I don't actually get the benefits of these techs. I still get 50% production penalty on barren worlds, but I can't research the advanced tech because I magically have it. Except I don't. :C

- uhm https://www.galciv2.com/Databanks.aspx is horribly broken

-Am I the only one who's game crashes after minimizing to desktop and then going back? I get Fatal Error - invalid call. This is one I should officially post since it's probably just me and there's some file or something I should post I guess.

-And when oh when are we getting non-horribly stretched widescreen images for the diplomacy screen? I thought these were placeholder graphics for beta 1 of the game. Now 2 expansion packs later and we still have them.

The initial release of 1.96 had that weapons bug you mention. CariElf had posted a .zip file to manually fix things that night since everyone who could post the update to SDC/Impulse was gone for the day. Yesterday there was another update that was the official fix for the weapons thing.
