Thank you for your responses, using assault shuttles is particularly appealing!

I've found that cloaking seems to ruin my experience of the game. I have looked up online ways to deal with it which have said to have ships or starbases with high sensor power to reveal ships using cloaking devices in combat so that they can become targetable once again, but have built a ship with over 12 or so titanic eye sensor modules (+12 sensor range each) and still am unable to reveal cloaked ships in combat. It makes it so my fleets just sit there and be annihilated by even just a few
