Thanks for the reply. So do we have any information on how the game chooses to build things on an automated planet? I would like to have some idea just how badly I'm screwing myself when I automate it.

I've been looking and can't find any real info so I'm coming to you guys for your thoughts. I inevitably find that in any large game, long before I'm even close to the end, I am THOROUGHLY tired of managing my core planets and end up automating them. If I remember correctly, in GC3, you could choose a specialization for the planet, but that doesn't seem to be the case in GC4. Do we know exactly how effective the automation is in 4? I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this or not, I only discovered these forums yesterday. But I've noticed that, even when set to "rare", there are a TON of space monsters and pirates. Two games in a row I've had both a space monster shipyard and a pirate shipyard within two stars of my home system. Anyone else experienced this?
