I vauguely remember someone posting that it's equially helpful to Stardock to buy from a retailer. The theory was that, while preorders from retailers don't result in as much per-unit profit for Stardock, the increased pre-release interest results in more top-shelf position, more shelf space and first page banner ads that a lesser game wouldn't get. The additional exposure will result in more units sold to people who have not tried 4X or may have not even heard of GalCiv at all. You'd be surpris

"Bill is Depressed". Most of my GalCiv I games go this way. I must be a closet masochist because I keep playing. Very, very cool post! Thanks!
I'm with Dano13. In the 4X games that have done it, it wasn't done well and/or wasn't fun. Take Space Empires IV, as an example. In a big fight, moving all those little ships individually was tedius, blunders made by the system if you used grouping to move stuff was frustrating, and being able to whup up on stuff you shouldnt be able to beat just because your micromanagement of units beats the AI took a lot of the fun out of the game. If you want tactical combat there's some very nic
Campaign! I lust for the storyline. Then tutorials, because I'll get my arse handed to me. Then campaign, then sandbox. lol
True. While the Metaverse was nifty, I didn't really get married to it either. In fact, I LOVED GalCiv I, but it seems that over 50% of my games I never finished. Still, it is the game that's on my laptop and goes with me on all business or pleasure travel. It's also the oldest of the games sitting on my desk at home (still in use), by far. I've never had an unpleasant experience with it. And... I'm about to explode with anticipation of the arrival of my GalCiv II package in the mail
Neat! I've been wondering what MMORPG to play since quitting Starwars Galaxies in utter frustration over Sony's constant brutal overhauls. Society looks very promising!
I'm a recovered GalCiv I addict, and it appears I'm about to fall off the wagon later this month. I have a question for beta players. If I can get wiped out by poorly choosing my offensive/defensive design strategy for starships, what's the best way to find out what the other guy is up to? In GalCiv I, it didn't really matter much. The race was to get to Dreadnaught before, or at least about the same time, as the other top players. It seems to matter much more what the choi
