SEIV/V and GC1/2 are totally different games...just like Civ4 is totally different from GC2. If you play SEIV/V expecting a GC2 game...then you are certainly going to be disappointed. However, that does not mean that we shouldn't TRY and compare the games and maybe get some handy/good features of SEV and incorporate it into GC2.

1) I use it on almost every planet! While the planet developes, i set it to SOCIAL, Later, if it's a ship-building planet, it gets switched to MILITARY and if it's a research planet it gets switched to RESEARCH. I cant believe people dont use it...it can make a difference between a ship being built in 18 weeks and 4 weeks (for ex

I hate to admit it but the OP has a point. There are quite a few grammar and spelling mistakes in the game and outside the game (manuals etc). However there are several things to consider: 1. Obviously you are an expert when it comes to the english lanuage...so you will, obviously, be more "focused" on these issues. However, for the average player...you must understand that it is not a big thing. Personally, I don't notice these m

Hi everyone. Just got some quick questions. Please tell me what you think. 1. Do you guys use the "focus" button in the planetary window? My first few games I used those like crazy...but I don't really know whether that is the best thing. One problem is that I can't tell what planet is focused on what production. The way I use it is...if I colonised a planet...I will focus on social for a few turns to get things going. If there is no social projects to build and no ship

Fantastic ideas guys! Keep them coming! They will definitely spice up the combat in GC2!!!!! The great things about the ideas mentioned in this thread is that it won't drastically change the AI. If we were to add tactical combat...the AI probably needs to be re-written...but these weapon changes will not only make the strategic combat more fun and involved but "should" be easy to implement.

With all the threads about no tactical combat...I agree. GC2 is not about tactical. BUT I do think we need more weapons...more different variety of weapons. Right now in GC2 its basically the bigger the weapon, the stronger you are. From what I understand and from my own experience, the only thing that the weapon techs do is to either a) increase the amount of damage done eg. laser IV does more damage than laser I b) decrease the

From what I understand and from my own experience, the only thing that the weapon techs do is to either a) increase the amount of damage done eg. laser IV does more damage than laser I b) decrease the size and/or cost of the weapon to be placed on the ship. I don't know whether someone has mentioned this before but GC2 definitely needs more variety of weapons. Some examples: - Weapons that damage the defense specifically and does not damage the ship. Maybe a "defense de

Wow, TNTTony you got quite a few good questions in there! I'll start with what I know for the quicker to answer ones. -No, an 0 Att, all Def wouldn't work because at some point you would roll a low Def against their attack. -Yes it is possible to beat an enemy if they out-tech you. It really needs to be a combinati

If there was a tech or a way to increase the minimum value...then that would certainly add more strategy to the mix. So if your defense is 3 and their attack is 3...you will still get damaged. That is why I think the game is still tailored to the "bigger the better" mentality (its not really a bad thing though....just more diverse weapons can increase strategy.) For instance, imageine researching weapon tech that can do more than just i

On equal terms (no starbases or other defense/offense bonus - did you check their race bonusses?) a 'laser 3, 0 defense' ship should be beaten by 'any offense 1, 3 laser defense'. Your 3 laser defense will counter the laser offense of your opponent each time, independent of who would have the first strike. In this case you will not lose any hitpoints, so your sh

Thanks Oldstatesman...but I have tried it numerous times and the only way to easily beat a laser 3, 0 defense is to have a 2 laser and 3 defense...which is too big for my ship size. I guess I could research more minaturization (sp?) but I question is this: Assuming that everything was equal, how would one tailor their ships (with their current research and tech) to beat that laser 3, 0 defense (18HP).

I am a big fan of GC1 and 2 Just wanted to start the post with the above sentence...just incase someone thinks this is a troll post Now I really like the new ship design and combat feature in GC2. It is definitely a step up from GC1 and is definitely fun. However, after reading nearly all the post in this forum about ship combat and looking at guides after guides (include w

#18 by eride Thursday, March 30, 2006 10:00 PM Trolling Insightful I also have noticed a problem with the games AI set to intelligent... There have been games where I was going to lose and I end up winning. Why? Because I can make ships that have extremely

that's seems a tad unfair to say. stardock could correctly point to the countless user reviews and magazine reviews stating how good the computer ai is in the release build. what you are saying implies that stardock didn't finish the computer ai which is absurd. not that anybody asked my opinion but it hink half the po

Turning up the difficulty level will just give them an economic bonus, not make the AI start doing smart things. It'd be like going from beating crippled children to beating crippled children while running uphill. Not what I'm looking for. Are you serious? That is not how it works at all.

Like the fact that you can easily launch surprise attacks, contrast to Civ4 where you can't launch an attack from inside enemy territory What difficulty level are you playing with on GC2? I don't know about you but when I make a surprise attack or am about to make one, I get a message from altarians (
