When I made a catapult, I noticed that fleets didn't seem to see speed bonus, but individual ships did. If you send your constructors around in fleets, that might be why you're not seeing the bonus (note, once you get the bonus, you can join the ships into a fleet without loosing the bonus). By the way, I think we should rename them Ship Yoyos, not ship catapults. I made one in a gigantic galaxy big enough to send the ship where I wanted it, have it beat up whatever opposition was in the

You can get through a game without ever losing a single unit. One of the things I thought was really neat about this game is that on my first game, I set all the AIs to sub-normal, and followed my usual Civ strategy of build up, wait for someone to attack you, obliterate them until you run out of units, make peace, repeat. It didn't work, because even at that level, the AI was smart enough not to start a fight if they would just get crushed :)

I second this strategy. I just finished a game on a huge map, where I built a very fancy Terror star, with all the cultural trimmings in my home system, and sent it towards an enemy system about 2/3 of the way across them map. It got maybe 1/2 way there, and I got bored, and sent out a fleet of constructors. The constructors had reached the enemy system, built a starbase, and converted all the planets before the Terror Star arrived :D

If you want to help another race which is being annihilated by culture, send about 10 constructors to a system where they are in danger, build a starbase with good defenses and all the culture improvements (Ok, it takes more than 10 if you've got a lot of tech), and then give them the starbase

I know this is asking a lot, but I would love - I mean, absolutely adore - an interface which would allow us to write our own AIs for the game. I've been reading some of the threads about AI goofs, thinking 'that doesn't sound too hard to fix'. I'd really enjoy the oppourtunity to prove myself wrong :)

Here's a fun one. In a game I was playing, the Altarians surrendered to the Torians. Then, several years later, I got a message from the Altarians saying that they were going to join in my war against the Arceans.
