I think there should be separators in fences so you can have gaps in between some icons, and I think you should be able to choose to have square borders on the fences instead of rounded ones. It would be good if you could change the size of the separators as well. Should

I had this problem and just fixed it. Might not be the same for you but a while ago my explorer.exe got infected by some virus, so i had to make a copy of it and change a registry key so it would use the copy instead of explorer.exe When i closed the process of the copy and opened explorer.exe, fences started working :) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon Change Shell to explorer.exe
