Absolutely. In GC III, privateers could be deployed for example. The Betatron Collider could be used sans war. luceo non uro
Missiles are awesome, especially when using 'shoot and scoot' to attrit enemy fleets. Plus, the anti matter bomb is on the missile tech tree and those babies are essential when the AI starts swarming. luceo non uro
Instead of being able to fire at enemy ships, could it be changed to fire at alien ships sans going to war? Nothing like prepping a colony ship to travel to a new world while an alien colony ship appears and beats you to it. Be nice to blow them away before they get there, without a declaration of war. luceo non uro

Seems it's always hiding behind a star, usually a system that has been colonized or 'core'd.' Have to zoom in to find it and it takes a while
Helps to use distance weapons - missiles and energy beams to degrade an enemy's fleet. Hit and run until there is no doubt you'll win in close combat. Superior speed helps tremendously too.

Personally notice that the AI stacks ships in gates, whenever I have totally blockaded the gate with my ships. Either block the gate on the other side or leave a few hexes on your side open when blockaded. luceo non uro

Several times ran across a system with 3 or more potential colony worlds and several 'dead worlds' that are quite distant from any core world. This is a great chance to upgrade one or more 'dead' worlds into a size 5 planet, colonize the colony candidates and make the class 5 a core world with tile upgrading enhancements. Adding a shipyard and an economy star base could make this a worthwhile system. Alas, currently no small size worlds can be made a core world. Any chan
