That is absolutely mind blowing. I haven't played GalCiv2 in a while, but I'm dying to know how you/SoleSoul did/came up with that :).

Well, beyond a broadly accepted resolution to the Dread Lord AI issue, if anything positive has come from this unfortunate incident it may be a resurrection of the ability of individuals to speak up and be heard on such issues in the future. I read the entire thread, and it did seem by the end of it that no one wanted to go through something like this again and also agreed there were alternate means of resolving such issues which could work in the future. On another note, I sugg

Hey everyone :). Just checked in today to see how things were going. The good news is that it looks like there is still a lot of creativity being put into the game, and the bad news has clearly been beaten to death already. Hopefully things are good between KP and Mumblefratz, as you are both players I've got the utmost respect for as well as being pillars of the community going back years. An ironic thing: As memory serves, the Kzinti first figure

I think it is intended to be funny. The United Planets just voted to send the galaxies' criminals to a prision on a Borg world, where they will doubtless be assimilated, and aid the Borg in their inexorable conquest.. I laughed at least :).

It can be worth it if you have a planet with a large ship bonus, either through colonizaition event or super project, a large production bonus or a 700x bonus square. Other than that, no. I don't think they're worth it. Still a needed tech for the resource extraction module however.

Super Organizer's job is to make it really easy to get all the evil races fighting all the good ones by bribing each evil race to attack the Altarians (which is usually cheap, since they are slow to develop militarily compared with the Drengin, Korath and Yor). This is particularly useful if you have war profiteering (TA Drath and Korx tech trees). That may not have been its intent I suppose, but it's my favorite use :).

I am probably the only player on earth who hasn't ever built the eyes of the universe. There just always seem to be higher research priorities in my games (this is probably a hole in my play). I'm going with the Galactic Bazaar (+50% to percieved trade value) or the Galactic Showcase (+25% to diplomacy). In my favorite play style, those are close to make or break. If I get those and the Diplomatic Translators (trade good, so not an option in this discussion), winning i

Honestly, it seems bugged. What I would suggest is a controlled experiment to limit the varaibles still further and see whether or not things start making sense. You could start a new game on a tiny map, one opponent with relations set to close, difficulty set to challenging (I believe that has no bonuses for you or the AIs), very fast research, and choose a race with no innate research bonus. Your home planet should show 24 tp turn one. Then build nothing, set the sli

I was never an expert on that tactic (I believe Wyndstar was its most prominent promoter), but from what I understand, it relied on using focus to either build if you were going all labs, or to research if you were going all factories. The all labs and all factories methods have been nerfed in Twilight, so they are less efficient than they used to be. In DA I used to go all labs in small and tiny maps, all factories in larger maps. In Twilight I've gone over to a mixed metho

Am I the only player who doesn't do much with trade as the Korx? I've just never gotten enough income out of it to justify the effort compared with internal development (or with putting an equivilant level of production into either getting an attack force together or starting a military star base array). I think the Korx work well with any alignment, but are probably best suited to Neutral since it increases their intended largest strengths (neutral trade gives +3 trade routes and

The Iconians have economic trouble due to not having access to advanced goverment, xeno economics or stock exchanges in addition to some powerful but expensive unique structures. I don't think there is any one perfect solution to their post colony-rush economic crunch, but keeping morale at 100% empire wide as long as possible, getting recruiting centers up in decent time, getting at least one morale building on each planet fairly early and two on the homeworld, getting to their unique

The Drath may be the easiest to win with on Suicidal (personally I think they're second), but that does not necessarily make them the strongest (though they may be). The Torian, for instance, can rapidly gain a large income through sheer population growth. The AI is inacapable of stopping a well executed Korath spore rush in most circumstances. The Iconians are terribly powerful early game with their unique planetary structures - all you've got to do is balance your economy,

I think that the AI has trouble using the Korx advantages intelligently, since the play style they do well with is so different from a more average race. I've found them to be quite effective diplomats if customized to that end. 2% privateering is more effective (at least on Suicidal) than I had thought it could be. But to play the Korx effectively requires a certain flexibility and opportunsim that is probably a lot more difficult to program into an AI than the more direct

I have immensely enjoyed the MVL - thank you all for your contributions to a great league. However, I agree with those who feel that we now lack the critical mass necessary to be viable, and in truth my enthusiasm for GalCiv2 isn't as strong as it used to be either. So I am resigning as MVL Commissioner, though if anyone wants to organize something for the future I would be glad to help in any way I can (and would also probably participate as a player). Again, thank

Great round everyone! :) And thank you KP for your excellent (as usual) scorekeeping. Silverbeacher, thank you for all you've done for the MVL. You will be missed. I think it may be appropriate to ask what everyone would like to see from the MVL going forward. A hiatus till the holidays have passed? Different format? Steady as she goes? Or are there others who feel that it has run its course? Basically, whe

I usually play Twilight, Suicidal level games with tech trading allowed. I also usually have a diplomatic focus strategically, so I nearly always end up simply trading for whatever the Korath or Drengin are using (doable do to massive diplomatic advantage through tech focus and prioritizing the diplomatic wonders). Late game, in the rare instance I decide to score grind, everything is going to get researched. I commonly have +50% luck, so if I've got equal weapons tech to my

You're right, I shouldn't have acted like an offhand comment from a developer on the forums was company policy. That was stupid of me - my apologies. And I completely agree that a 20k price tag to update a dead end delivery system so that a relatively small number of gamers could download what is already a free, content rich update you were under no obligation to deliver is much, much too high. I'll have to see what can be done to get 2.0 working on Windows2000, and if that

I just want to add another voice to those asking that this update be made available to those unable to use Impulse. I've got a Windows 2000 computer which will not run Impulse, and I'd really looked forward to this update being made available on SDC, as we'd previously been told it would. Thank you for your consideration! It looks great, I just wish I could install it :).

My home computer is running Windows 2000. I can not install impulse. And has previously been stated, we've been assured that 2.0 would be available on SDC. If it would be possible to release 2.0 on SDC, as you had previously said you would, it would be greatly appreciated. Don't get me wrong, Stardock is a great company, but this reversal along with the rigidity of current company policy regarding update methods (there is only one and not everyone can use it) would be
