You don't even have to "strap on" an engine. Just a colony container and a hull will suffice for close planets.

Does anyone have a link or picture of the tech tree so I can print it off? I downloaded the game from Stardock and I don't know where to get a copy of the tech tree so I can write notes on it. Thanks for the help!!!

Is it true that the core ships are cheeper than the custom ships. It seems like when I try to duplicate a core ship, it turns out to be more expensive. Comments? On a side note with the ship questions, do upgraded weapons really cause more damage? Or do they just take up less space? For example, lasers 1 and lasers 2 are both listed as causing 1 damage.
