I imagine 1.6 will, yes, coincide with Mercenaries, both in beta and final release. Long tangent, somewhat ranting (but really more observation-rambling) commentary: The delineation between new version, DLC and expansion seems to have gotten a bit muddled over the years. In the early days, before the Internet was ubiquitous, it was vanilla release, then maybe an expansion. Updating the base software when most customers did not have Internet access me

Heh. Unfortunately they were humbled several years back by WoM. I think that was kind of a hard lesson. The farther we go, the more lines of code goes into each game and the more likely bugs will manifest. Its no longer a matter of whether there will be bugs, but how many and at what severity levels.

XCOM seems to be turn based tactics. I don't see the strategic element. To me, strategy incorporates heavy resources and logistics management including trying to reduce or cut off the enemy's resources and supply lines, versus tactics is moving and positioning units for optimal offense and defense. And yeah, steve. Yours is Feb. 18. That gives us elite founders 14 days and change, reducing every day 'til we get our beta access k

You have to wait to get a Beta Access Code. You won't get that /in/ the Steam client, you'll probably get it through e-mail and/or the Stardock store account, you copy that code when you get it and you will put it into your Steam account.

[quote who="Avatar137" reply="111" id="3617588"] I noticed last night that my opt-in status had been removed. Yes, we're getting closer... EDIT: Never mind, just noticed that it is now back for some reason without me doing anything at all... Those internet gremlins messing with my impatient mind once again... I bet brad programmed them! GalCiv 2 had similar. If you put the AI on easy level, they would still evaluate what you did and you'd get a message long the lines of "If you had set my difficulty setting higher, I would respond to your lame tactic of putting your ships within striking range of my planets before declaring war."

Microsoft's EULAs since XP I have found horrific. They can and will freeze the OS so WIndows will no longer run, essentially bricking your computer if you make too many hardware modifications to 'your' computer, then you have to get their special permission to unlock it so you can continue to use your PC. I'm not so terrified of Defender, but the EULA is atrocious. It was worse when XP first came out and they've eased slightly since then, but they still

The Yor are a robotic race that need to build new Yor to grow, as opposed to organic life that grows based on food. However, there is a bit of ambiguity in their building options in that "Manufacturing Yor" is a building that increases production (but does not, as could be mis-interpretted, build Yor population). The item to "build" that actually builds Yor is simply called "Assembly." While those of us who play the game for awhile understand this (and/or understand you

You can also check your 'downloads' on store.stardock.com (same username/password as logging onto the forums). I think your beta access code will wind up there for Mercenaries if that's what your waiting for as an elite founder (IIRC, elite founders get the expansions whereas regular founders got only DLC?) as well as being e-mailed to you (I think). I've been checking daily ... no Mercenaries beta code yet there or in my e-mail.

As can be seen in the screenshot above, there are odd fog of war glitches/artifacts generated by ships on some kind of automove. Both of the above, I believe, were generated by survey ships that wormholed outside their range and then (on Autosurvey) moved to the nearest anomalies in sensor range on an Immense map. I notice this tends to happen with ships that are fast.

Future Ideas racial trait: "Creative" (maybe give this to the Torians to make them even more techy than the Altarians?) I wouldn't have a clue how many points it should gobble, but the "Creative" trait would allow more than one 'enhancement tech' to be researched. Could possibly be two-level: At the first level, you still select an enhancement tech, and you get a second one at random; at the second level, you research all the enhancements at the sam

Several technologies in the research tree have one of two or three enhancements, of which you are only allowed to research one. However, it is possible to obtain more than one through tech trading. Some players consider all tech trading to be exploitive, and thus disable tech trading during game setup. Even among players whom do not consider all tech trading to be expl
