I prefer the pop limit to be when malloc()/new() return NULL.

It'd be nice if there were "hero" type personnel that can be assigned to ships; that could be captured or lost, that bring unique bonuses to individual ships/planets/fleets.
The Stardock connection brought me to SoASE. GalCiv2 is a great game. And it happens to run on my AMD64 single-core laptop quite well. Homeworld 2 and the SW:EAW also run passably well, despite the Radeon X200 video (never go there! geforce2go all the way!). Is there any hope that this game will run on my notebook? I'm sure it's too early to peg down a *real* minimum requirements, but what sort of platform are you targeting; and how much effort are you preparing to devote to testing and tuning o
I agree with ninja. I think they're completely different targets. I think SupCom will be absolutely cool. I haven't heard of any plans for the scale to extend beyond the boundary of a single planet just yet though. Remember Interlocking Game System (Rules of Engagement)? We could zoom out from SupCom and fall into SoASE. For the truly perverse integration engineers among us.
I would personally find that really frustrating. If devs added this, I'd hope it would be an option. I can see where someone might want to have to peg through a spectrum analysis to try to match the signature to one in the data base (you sub sim zealots!) but I think that could be pretty mind-numbing after a while.
Devs -- it could be frustrating so maybe not a good idea, but consider what might happen to a nation if it's capital city were dealt a harsh blow, crippling its government; if it wasn't prepared (depending on your tech system, a research item for "shadow government" that allowed for "backup" capitals could be added), production, trade, research -- everything could be disrupted until a new capital is established. This would create significant strategic value to a homeworld and necesitate its prot
Thanks! That was quite excellent. Great production values. Already seems more sophisticated than SoTS. My expectations have now been set high. It looks like there's a vast amount of ships in combat at once and that it takes place at a pretty frenetic pace -- that could be tricky if not pulled of well.
Check out Kerberos Production's Sword of the Stars. This is the Homeworld Cataclysm team doing something very similar to what Sins is described to. Let me say, I've played the SoTS demo and did not purchase the game though I was very excited about it initially. I found the interface to be kludgy and that combat was not satisfying. Much rather play GalCiv2. Watching the battles there is more fun than the limited participation in SoTS. (plug, plug). Anyway, may the Sins team check this out and avo
(sorry for the follow up, but just gotta say it): The Arceans sold me a ranger for 8000bc. But they won't trade my best planet for Laser I.
I had four Rangers show up in a game, none were given to me. I've always bribed the civ that got them, and, at least on "Simple" they seem to be WAY willing to hand over a tech that I'll use to spank them. I mean,

Coming from a development background and being generally nosy, I'm glad that the devs put together a changelog with each patch. I mean, I want to know what's going onto my machine and also what you guys have been up to. I'm also generally lazy, which means I'm not going to Start -> Search "changelog". ... and never remember where you guys keep it. How about a "changelog" button for updates on Star
New tech(s): Personal Spacecraft (Xeno-Entertainment / Logistics): population can migrate between planets to maximize happiness and even out pop-cap. Threat: if you don't dominate in influence, population can migrate to another empire. Mitigation: Loyalty and morale techs. Population Control: population is capped at what can be sustained contently
Curse you for showing me the grand strategic view! I never play zoomed in any more! And that brings me to my suggestion. A checkbox option. Zoom in on battles. When ships meet in tet-a-tet combat, I'd like to see closely which ships are involved. All I see in the strategic view are tiny icons blasting each other. Not terribly rewarding, even when I win. Why make the game so dang *pretty* if I can't see it? I don't want to complete my turn, THEN zoom in
At the "beginner" level they've colonized four planets on a small map... and shortly after realizing I have the rest of them told me it was time to die. Seems reasonable to me.
To reinforce (2) make sure you upgrade your influence starbases; research culture tech (+NN influence) and build the Restauraunt of Eternity (a distant cousin of the Restaurant on the Edge of the Universe, that somehow got the better end of the deal; before disappearing completely and being replaced with something even more bizarrely inexplicable). To supplement (3) there may not be a formula, but click on enemy ships and look at what they've got. At w
Frequently I'd like to upgrade or decommission individual units in a stack... so it'd be nice to do that easily (i.e., w. the mouse)
The latest 10X.009 patch does not seem to fix this problem for me. Does it still happen to anyone else?
Also, for me it does NOT do this if I am not in a game... if I just go into the menu and back out, things pop back to normal pretty quick. For those who have this, is that your experience too?
From what I'm reading, this issue may be limited to AMD64 CPUs or possibly 64-bit CPUs in general... OR it could be the Radeon Mobility X200 GPU... anybody with an EMT64 that's having this or a non 64-bit CPU but a X200 that doesn't have it happen?
HP Pavilion zv6000 laptop with AMD64 3200 CPU, ATI Radeon Mobility X200, and 512MB of RAM running Windows XP. Swap file is at 765MB. General observation: the game seems to run hot (GPU throttling?). When I exit from the game (even on a tiny map, I'm afraid to try a larger one right now) it takes a good 30 seconds to a minute to "come back" to Windows. Lots of "tool tips" have popped up on the desktop but the screen flickers and they go away. (This is s
I actually thought this was the result of the AI thinking... when it happens to me if I zoom all the way out, and then back in, it shows the movement of the AI's ships and then I get the end turn button.
Congratulations to the Stardock crew! That comfortable northern Michigan climate must do wonders for development... You guys have got it nailed. You give us exactly what we want. Great production value, no BS like StarForce (even license provisions for laptop users; when the rest of the industry cringes that you can actually install the software on your own machine instead of pay-per-play!) Don't sell out to the Korx when they come knocking! Send them
