After recently upgrading my system, I've noticed that I have massive graphical problems in GC2. Graphics, even the intro movie, are all choppy, jittery and seemingly highly accelerated. I'd take a screen shot but err, those don't show it since it's all about the animation. The most noticable effect is that any time I move my view, it will jitter back and forth then finally settle on where I wanted it. Edge scrolling is useless, since it scrolls to the edge of the galaxy instantly. In the shipyar

After having gone on a delete binge to remove some ship designs I no longer desired to clutter up new games I became so used to clicking yes after each delete, that when I obsoleted a design for defensive fighters (of which I had perhaps 50+), I clicked yes again.... which decommissioned all of them leaving many many worlds undefended.... yikes! Fortunately, the AI didn't pick up on this in time for it to become a major issue. Also, fortunately, I alwa

When another race surrendered to me I found that many of the starports on my new worlds did not function, i.e. could not build ships. The starports are definitely present on the worlds, but the game will not allow me to build ships till I decommission the old one, then build a new one. Have save game of issue, will send to usual address with this same text... since game did not crash, didn't get a smart exception. I once had a planet with 4 factories, one on a 700% and a manufacturing capital... it was churning out dreadnaughts in 4 turns. Cost billions to keep it operating at full capacity though.

3) Yes, that's the way things are supposed to work. There is quite a bit of disagreement with it in the community however. Basically, if you have 100% spending, and 33/33/34, you will be getting 1/3rd of each of your production values. At 50% and 33/33/34, you'll get 1/6th. More or less, what this means is that the rest of that industry or research is used for "other" things, disease research, civilian production and the like. No matter what, unless yo

1) I'm afraid they don't as written... but it does sort of make sense in both directions. They should, and should not benefit from your culture, depending on the circumstances. 2) I wish... 3) As far as I know, no one has found a way to upgrade these ships. 4) New anomalies are supposed to pop up later in the game, but due to a bug they don't. 5) Military strength is directly a factor of offense and defense v

Yes, but do keep in mind that your designs are dependant on technology. If you had a level of miniaturization and maxxed out your load, you'll need that miniaturization in the new game before you'll see the ship. Since I heavily customize the appearance of the ships, I always save a Hull varient of the ship e.g. Hull Horizon DD (Basically, a medium hull destroyer class named horizon, and clearly marked as a blank hull design). That way I can see the sh

Army/Air Force/Marine ranks: 2nd Lieutenant, (1st) Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Lt. Colonel, Colonel, General Navy/Coast Guard ranks: Ensign, Lieutenant JG, Lieutenant, Lieutenant Commander, Commander, Captain, Admiral Typically, Sci Fi shows use Naval ranks for ship staff and Army ranks for pilots and gropos. It gets real confusing sometimes when Captains salute Commanders... [rant] Ironically, as often as they get the ranks correct, they don't get the ship sizes

Clearly someone who spends more time on the ship design screen than I do! Wish I had ordered the GC2SE now, instead of vanilla... Definitely can see some of the parts there that I don't have. If I were to download your ships, would I still be able to see them properly in my vanilla GC2?

As far as I can tell, red numbers don't indicate critical hits. Those are hits that caused a ship to be destroyed. However, I do think there are critical hits. No idea what percentage chance or anything. It stands to reason that there must be, since a 1/1 vs a 1/1 will actually end at some point assuming the manual is correct about damage and defense being 1-n, of course. I have seen ships hit for more damage than their attack rating, so that would ind

Is this in some invisible forum no one but me can see? Yes, it is... and I am a figment of your overactive imagination. Actually, I'm kind of curious how the scoring works as well. I assume it's somewhat based on end game score you get with a multiplier for difficulty level, map size and l

I usually include a starport even on class 5 planets just so that I can build tiny or small defensive ships, because my defensive ships usually have a move rate of 1. But other than the starport, I completely tailor each planet. Research world, manufacturing world, economy world... The only exception is the homeworld, which I usually have a mix on...because those early days you'll need a mix.

Balance doesn't mean identical. Same number of techs, but different techs might be a form of balance. For example, perhaps one of the warlike races should start with military research in some capacity. A more economically inclined race should start with advanced economic research of some sort. Things like that.

Aloriel, you might want to play with your tax sliders more. You'll find that there are sweet spots where increasing your tax rate actually reduces the taxes you collect, probably because more people are working under the table. When I've played around with it I usually I peak at about 72% taxes, with higher tax levels bringing in less money. Ye

My strategy varies from the above, though it may change if they implement one of the things being talked about. I push taxation up to 100%, spending to 100%, cut social to about 15-20% and leave the other two sliders balanced, so 40 research, 40 military. I leave taxes at 100% till morale gets below 50% on my homeworld and adjust taxes a little down, then wait for below 50% morale again. The point of all of this is to expand, expand, expand. Homeworld is building only colony ships to

Does that sound reasonable for future GC works? Sure, it sounds reasonable. However, it doesn't solve the current dilemma that GC2 still doesn't account for it. Other than the female robot, there's no real sign that women even exist, let alone run empires.

I wouldn't be bothered by the honorifics misuse... if it misused them in both directions. Why assume that all races would err in the direction of male? In fact, I would think that the matriarchal insectoid race (can't think of it's name at the moment) would err in the direction of female. If it is intentional misuse, then I'd like to see some of you guys get called Lady and she on occasion.

Again, other then the Altarians and Humans, I don't think sex matters for the GC2 races. Very true about the other races. And personally, I don't particularly worry about it with them so long as there is a choice of male/female pronouns and titles. Unfortunately, there are two races which are quite recognizable as being uniquely male leaders by

I don't remember being female or male being a cosmetic concept in real life Why is it cosmetic in game?

103 Replies 78,361 Views

I apologize if this comes off a bit harsh, but I'm a bit angry here. We're not asking for much here. Just a little 2d picture at the race selection screen (used elsewhere during the game as well) that can alternately be a female instead of male, and for the various titles throughout the game to reflect the choice of male or female leaders... and you suggest that they'll be added in an expansion pack? I hope that was a joke (which it's a really bad one at that!), because if it isn't th
