It's total apathy. I'm so with you. I quit caring about halfway through my program. I'm about done--I have one more paper and then my portfolio to put together, and I will have my Master's degree--YAY! I think it would have helped if, over the past year and a half, I would have had more than two weeks of breaks. Trying to teach and do this at the same time is a LOT. You'll get there, my friend. :) You're ALMOST to the end of the term! Is

1. Fix No Child Left Behind. Quit using high stakes fill in the blank testing to assess student progress. Educate teachers on best teaching practices instead of taking away money from schools that "don't make the cut." Give power back to the states in regards to education. 2. Cut non-essential programs. 3. Instead of throwing money and food stamps at people mindlessly, I would REQUIRE that they choose some sort of vocational or profession

Oy vey. If its any consolation (and I doubt it would be), whe we taught in Las Vegas I had first graders french kissing and showing private parts. AND...our principal had seen fifth graders giving blow jobs in the midst of a group of peers on the play ground. I just...I wonder where kids hear this stuff and see this stuff? I know the answer and THAT is what scares me.
I'll probably just be a biker. Its easy. One of the coolest costumes I saw at school last year was R2D2. One of my students brothers painted up a garbage can. It was awesome (and the only one I remember from last year).
I come home absolutely whipped every night. I feel like I've given everything I can emotionally during the day, not to mention running around like a total nutjob all day. Even though I feel like I give and give, on days like today when my students aren't in my classroom with me, I miss them. And really, I feel like they give me FAR more than I give to them. I know they do. They're amazing. It seems though, that sometimes there is a student who just can
Ummmm....sorry. That was me. :) Ziggy was using my computer while I was out partying with the girls yesterday.
I got 92%. I did the George Washington oops, too, and some of them I just didn't read all the way through. Figures. Bad teacher. The only reason I know this stuff is because I had to teach it. If I hadn't taught it a couple of years ago I'd probably have a much poorer score.
I just got back from a conference with some colleagues. It was four hours to the confrernce and four hours back. Two meals out, etc. This trip made me realize what a misfit I am. I was in the car with five other women. I knew most of these women, and we all get along well. We'd talk about a variety of topics ranging from movies to husbands to kids, etc. I felt like I had pertinent things to add to the conversation, but I felt like I was talked ove
I don't feel equipped to work with many of my learners with special needs. Even with all of the special ed teachers working with my students, I feel like I don't have any idea. I feel like I'm getting a little more experienced as I continue on this career path, though.
I've heard LOTS of good things about geothermal heating and cooling. What have you found out about it?
My students talk about it a lot. One student will say "My dad doesn't like black people--that's why he's not voting for Obama." Another will say "I'm glad I'm not black living a long time ago, they were slaves." It's interesting what they understand at 7 and 8 years old. I'm not afraid to talk about it. I think its an interesting discussion to have with anyone.
We have a different breed of parents here on JoeUser, though. They are not a representative sample of the general American parentage. It depends on where you live, too. I teach in a town where the median household income is $60,000. That is not reperesentative of "average." FORTUNATELY, I teach in the "bad" part of town. We serve several low-income trailer parks. This is the part of town where parents are more likely to do the drug thing, not give a r
At least you know she'll be a beauty. ;-)
Wow. Okay. I guess I'm off to go get my tubes tied. :)
Oopies. I forgot the other quote HTML thingy. Sorry Ted!
Charles: It's not that I don't trust myself like...I don't know if I could keep from beating my kids or whatever. That's not the issue. The issue is that I work with so many children who just...have it horrible. I wouldn't want that for kids, whether or not I provided the horribleness. You see so many kids whose parents just don't have time, and don't care. I think it would be hard to be a teacher and be a parent. I don't know how these other teacher
I don't disagree with you that kids are "clay," because they are who they are. But I think that kids are SO teachable. Lots of my students don't have social skills. They don't know how to accept a complement, how to apologize, how to accept a "no," etc. You can teach kids those things, and when kids have those skills, I think it changes them a little bit, you know? People think that pitbulls are this horiffic breed of dogs, etc., but they're not. They have
No...I know you were being silly. :) What do you think the difference is between two kids and four? Do you think the workload is different for you? I'm with you...when kids leave the house, they need to know how to take care of themselves and their space by themselves. I think that living with siblings in a bigger family can help kids know how to work things out with other people. My sister and I were seven years apart, so I never really got those skill
My theory is that kids are like dogs. Does that sound horrible? But they are what you make them. You can teach the dog how you want them to act from the moment you get them, or you can not do a whole lot with them, and the dog won't listen at all when its really important. There's just so many variables. Maybe I should adopt a ten year old and then I can blame any screwed-upedness on foster parents, etc. lol :) I just don't know...we have lots of talking
I've been thinking alot about having babies lately. I used to think that I wanted kids...a whole passel of them. I wanted as many as we could possibly have. Now I'm not so sure. I'm not so sure I want ANY. I love kids. I love them. But I've seen how much damage, I , as a parent, can do to them. Granted, no parent is perfect, but...I don't know if I could take that chance with another human being. I guess I kind of take that chance teaching,
Ummmm...sorry. That was me. Who the hell does he think he is to use my computer?
Hi! I'm up a little bit before Ry, so I thought I'd tell you a little bit about what's going on with our little family. I'm almost done with my Master's Degree. YIPEE!!!!!!!!!!! I have about six more weeks left, and then I need to submit my portfolio and I'll be done. I can't wait until my time is MY TIME again, and I can come home and not have to worry about homework other than the stuff I choose to bring home from school. It'll be nice, and then in Ja
