unless superior tech means light years ahead, it must be able to mass produce it or else it will be attritioned to death by lower quality, but higher quantity weapons (in reality, the rule of the strongest survive in a tied battle doesn't happen often). Why do you think the Allies bomb German cities? It is to erode its production (factories) and economy (people) so that high end weapons such as Germany superior jet fighters cannot be produced or maintained in significant quantities. Same thing i

Before 1st Colony Rush: all factories and Manufactory Capital After 1st Colony Rush: build econs, 1 morale, and wonders over some factories. Keep around 4-5 factories, less if have bonus tiles

I think influence for Drengin lies in their ability to project violence. For evil and neutral races, violent intergalatic sporting/gladiator events is a great way to gain cultural influences (so called entertainment). Example, many humans loves violent TV. I would suggest Xeno Propaganda or Arena of Agony go on the line of this for influence boost.

Influence victory early Feb 2231. Designed the huge dreadnaught just for fun. I got a 375 missile attack rating using photon missile III. Huge jump in military rating by just building one of these. Thalan with all factory is great. With careful management of economy in the beginning, it is very powerful, even with trailing weapon techs, quantity can overwhelm quality.

Bad news: the apparent jump in their military rating after I donated my 2 large destroyers and the rest of my Battle Axes, the Terrans backed off and declared peace, my plan is ruined again! But some good news did come out of it. The Iconians are now Close to me in relation AND I got 3 planets of theirs in return for this military aid. A couple of them are low in PQ but as I had finished with all the Terraforming techs AND all the Adv Extreme techs, they instantly became paradises for me from my

Goodbye Arcean, I’ll take good care of your resources and planets. Now that Arcean is gone, I can relax now …………….. That was relaxing. Back to business. Here is a timeline about my military progress. Here is a pic of a typical Terran Battleship. Pathetic, isn’t it? <img src="http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/7357/thalan13kk3.jpg"

Aug 2229 The research for Large hull is now complete. I will hold off designing until my Hyperion Shrinker is done. The war on Arcean is almost finished (this is the direct result of their action of betraying my 2 trade routes and the mutual economy treaty). They only have 2 planets left to conquer (both were my Econ planets before the war) and I’m surprised that they didn’t surrender to anyone yet. Oh well. I took over their 3 Galactic Resources: 2 Military and 1 Morale! Great additions. So

BTW, I would imagine that the strategy of using factories to generate research would work especially well for the Thalens. (But I've never actually tried it.) I just posted an AAR using Thalan and all factories. It does work, at least on Painful.

Sometimes during the 2nd colony rush, The Xenophobic Galactic Event occurred and reduced influence effects. I wasn’t happy about it as my influence was ranked 1st but decided to let it continue.

This is my first AAR and I don’t know how to capture a screenshot and how to post an image. Can anyone help me? Anyway, I’ll try to describe more to make it up. Game setting: Large map; Abundant Habitable Plants, Number of Planets, Number of Stars, and Number of Analomies; Random Star Density and Number of Asteroids; Normal Tech rate; 4 Minors; Tech trade disabled; All victory conditions enabled; Random 6 AIs at Painful. I chose Thalan and added: +20 Research, +30 Military Productio

The 100/0/0 and 1/99/0 is trying to maximize the respective potential in that particular area of production in the mid to late game and simplifies certain game elements. Strength of 100/0/0 is that it will double military productions and good for mass producing. Downside is that you have to choose between social and research focus when social building is not complete yet and very wasteful. Strength of 1/99/0 is that it will almost double social production, unused social will

If Drengnin and Korath are fighting each other, won't that take some pressure off of you? You should make peace with Drengnin and focus on Korath. Bribe a few others races to join against Korath. As for weaponary, you said Korath has MA and MASS Defense. Do you have Missle Defenses? Customize your ships defenses just against Korath's Missle Attacks using Wyndstar's defense and suicide ship strategy above.

From the above examples, it does seem that full military production benefits more in the long term. Either 100/0/0 and 1/99/0 will run into trouble in the early years due to waste. So I suggest all factory build, especially Thalan to use micro-management balanced spending (use all 3 sliders to get the best average usage) in the colony rush period. This way, you won't go bust. Get those Freighters out ASAP (best with Impulse) and a couple of survey ships if have enough anomalies (for th

I also hate those spore ships. Try bribe others to go to war with Korath while you get your fleets online. Over production is a downfall of Super Hive, however if I remember correctly, military production will change to BC when producing nothing. For Thalans, alternating research between trade/econ techs, build econ worlds, frieghters, econ trade starbases is a must for not going bust during the colony rush. Try putting a few points into morale instead of economy. That will h

They stole a bunch of tech from the Yor This mega event, I think, really does give the minor race ALL the techs of a given race. That makes the minor race immensely powerful all of a sudden.

if I remember correctly, Pirates appears with the highest tech of weapons and armor researched so far in the game. If you have max out 1 weapon tree. Guess what the pirates will have when they appear. Perhaps they are "Pirates" simply because no one knows where they come from. Could be a prelude to Galciv 3?

Why can't we get the best of both styles within the same game? I'm been toying around with all labs/factories styles since Wyndstar's great AAR. It seems that the "flip" he mentioned is very important. So, I can start out using all factory and flip to all labs when economy has a good surplus and get a good lead on tech. Then either flip all back to factory or convert some planets while using the 1/49/50 spending to mass produce while still can maintain a good tech lead. The mix of these

In an all factory build, more production = more focused research. It seems that 1/4 base production values (without production +%) are taken as the research value when focused. Then the research +% would apply to this value. So it does help I have a question: Military production goes back to treasury when not building anything. So can anyone come up with different scenarios comparing eco buildings/ farms/morale, all factories but no productions/research, and eco buildings/factories
