I really need to renew my Object Desktop subscription. I used to use Object Desktop way back on OS/2, and it did indeed make life much easier. I've used it far less on Windows though.

I'd love to have a Volt, but at a cost to GM of manufacturing of 42k, It's way, WAY out of my price range. My last car was expensive for me, and only cost $15k after taxes. I like the way the volt is designed over most other hybrid cars. It's more like a Diesel train in its design than any other hybrid, and that's the exact direction I would have gone given the choice. We use Outlook at work, but I have my outlook system setup to also copy all my mail over to my gmail account. It's not really for convenience, as we have OWA. I wonder how hard it would be to convert the project to VS2008/VS2010 yourself? I imagine that running GC2 inside a VM would limit the speed of the Direct3D stuff, so to debug or run it you would have to copy it over to your native system.
SirPleb: Regarding #9, Building something else on a farming tile and putting a farm elsewhere is something I do all the time. Often, with the farming bonus the population will simply be way too high to be sustainable and the morale will drop horribly on that planet even if I devote a ton of other tiles to morale improvements. Yay. I still play 2-3 games a year on GalCiv2, so I welcome any improvements. One thing I might request could be to make the Minor Races a little more effective. When they are at war, and I give them ships, tech, and money, those ships just hang there in space doing nothing and are stuck with 0 move, sitting ducks... I like to see how my ships will do against the enemy through proxy wars... It's been awhile since I tried that tactic though, maybe it's improved.

I found the GalCiv minor races to be at the mercy of the player, but not because they lack magic or couldn't expand. Rather, they had excellent economies and produced decent enough ships. The problem was more that they suffered from many crippling bugs in their implementation. One thing I tried to do several times in GalCiv2 was to utilize the minor races in a proxy war against the majors and test out my new ships. Sadly, it seems I can't keep using JoeUser precisely because of the flaws I described above. I'm finding that many RSS sites including ones that my friends use end up showing the same article over and over again because of its poor implementation of the RSS protocol in general. The day after I finished Dragon Quest 5, I also reached the final boss in Final Fantasy 13. Of course, as is the case most of the time in Final Fantasy games recently, I wasn't able to beat it on the first pass. This is actually pretty unusual for me. Dragon Quest 5 was one where the final boss went right down. It's not just iPad that he's talking about, but the whole instant on/micropayment/fast user experience thing that all of the modern tablet OSes will probably have. It's a powerful idea for a portable unit. One many devices have had before, but the iPad was the first out the door to combine these 3 traits with the utility of a larger screen and fully capable web browser.
As for the content of the article... I certainly hope that it isn't the iPad that becomes the dominant platform. They're the farthest thing from developer and consumer friendly over there. The PalmOS, and Windows platforms both embraced third party apps doing things better than built in apps, encouraged innovation and improvement of the UI. Apple is so arrogant that they think people couldn't possibly improve their perfect system. I'm looking forward to Android, Ubuntu, and WebOS tablets...</
The HP Slate has been cancelled, and they are instead working on WebOS based tablets at HP...
