Newly purchased from Steam and will not start from launcher

Just purchased from Steam a couple of days ago and it has never launched. At first it would bring up a dialog box for feedback to Stardock, but it quit doing that after the first day. The launcher starts and I click launch. The splash page pops up for a few seconds, then everything shuts down without feedback, including the launcher. I have tried almost everything that I can do from the user support page, but nothing changes. My computer is significantly more capable than the recommended system.

Please make sure you did not click to have it not show again:

If it then shows, please submit it with a valid email address.

If it fails, report back if you have this directory here:

\Documents\My Games\GalCiv4

If you do not, please ensure you do not have Windows Controlled Folder Access on:

Thanks for the prompt reply. There is no key in my registry about the crash reporter in that section. When I try to set the Controlled folder access, I get this dialog. I don't know why it saying this. I am an admin on the home PC.

Let's see if you can create a new admin account:

If so, try to run the game under it.

If it fails, try the above again and I need to know if files are being created in:

\Documents\My Games\GalCiv4

Yes, files are being created in the GalCiv4 folder. I tried the trick adding _OLD to the folder name and it made a new one.

I made a new admin account and the program ran under it. That one really surprised me. :-) It isn't an ideal solution, but at least it does work. I will check to see if I can spot a difference between the accounts and settings.
