Scenario:
I have a small survey ship with no armaments. The Captain, Survey Sam, has just received new orders for him to begin an emergency mission to explore a new region of space with untold anomalies and other treasures just now uncovered by one of my colonizers in the East. Time is of the essence, because the Torians and Yor have been sighted not far from there.
On his way West, Sam had barely escaped some pirates. He marked his Rally Point map with their location, and he pretty much knows what he needs to do to avoid their nest during his return trip to the East.
To get to the lucrative anomaly field, Sam's new path will require a Southeast trajectory for about 10 tiles, then a due East path for about 15 tiles, and finally, he should be able to go Northeast for 10 tiles and double back due West for 5 tiles. This path should allow Sam to completely avoid the known location of the pirates, make a strategic sensor pass of two as-yet unexplored star systems, and finally to come at the newly discovered anomaly field from behind.
Currently, the "Go To" command does not allow for a ship to take multiple waypoints to get to a destination. As a result, I have to fly Sam's path manually, or I have to use subsequent "Go To" commands to get him there. This is inconvenient, and also requires me to constantly remember the flight plan for Sam's new mission. Why have ships' Captains if I have to do everything for them?
This might be a fairly easy improvement to make. I would like to see a waypoint system created for ship movements or, better yet, just allow multiple, chained "GoTo" commands to be entered.
