Help?

I'm so lost

I just started playing this game yesterday, it looks cool, and seems to have most of what i'm looking for in a game, however I just cant figure out how to do things. I've even read the manual and looked at other sites.

I move my colony ship to another planet early in the game, 1 with a rating of 8, another with 10, i left click on the ship, right click on the planet, and it moves there just fine. So 2 ships moving out, i even research the first planet tech on the way, they get there, and neither wants to put people on the ground. I press "D" to look at options, cant seem to find any that will let me colonize the planet.

My next problem is with the constructor and building starbases or mines or whatever when i find things in space worth mining. Again i direct the ship to a resource, or a place i want to build a starbase and when he gets there, no option to build. Yesterday for some reason I was able to build one, but only when I was being attacked, and it was destroyed before I could finish it.

Today its fairly early in the game, do i need to develope any techs before i can do either of the above things or am I missing something? Thanks to anyone that can help.

When a colony ship enters a planet tile, or a constructor enters a resource tile, they should begin colonization or starbase building automatically. To build a starbase on a empty tile however you need to move the constructor in position then click on it, select "Costruct" from the bottom panel and then choose the starbase you want.

The fact that you weren't able to do these things is strange, and right now I can think of only a reason for it...did you build custom colony ships and constructors or use the default ones?

If you made a custom one, then I bet you did it by upgrading the default...when you do that, the game strips it from functional modules(unless you change it in the options) so be sure to add again the the "Colonization module" for Colony ships or the "Constructor module" for constructors. Otherwise you just end up with useless junk

If you used the default models, then I don't know what's happening...

Thank you for your reply, i have figured out the new custom ships part, though i'm using the default ships when trying to build things. Can you post a screenshot where it would say "construct"? I've just tried to change the resolution on my screen thinking maybe because i'm on a laptop it was being cut off, but I'm still not seeing it. I do see it when i press "d" after targeting the constructor, its just shaded so i cant click on it.

As for when a ship enters a planet or resource tile, the ships never say they're in orbit around a planet, and the constructors always seem to stop right next to, but not ontop of the resources, so 1 tile away i would guess.

I will make sure the default ships have the modules now, though i dont know why they wouldnt. This game does look like a lot of fun, i just wish I didnt have this huge problem.

Hmm, not sure what happened, but i'm guessing in my innital playing around i edited the default ship designs to remove the moduals making it not work, this new game i removed the old designs and am using the defaults, and i have been able to colonize a planet, trying to do the mining now, but i already see the big purple circle around my constructor, so i would guess it wont be a problem. Thx for your help.
