Basic versus Advanced Colonization

In the colony rush phase of ToA one must contend with the extreme planets. Can anyone tell me what the difference between basic and advanced colonization of an extreme planet is? I would guess that "advanced" lets the planet behave as a normal planet, but that basic hampers planet development in some way. But I am only guessing and can't find any documentation on this. Right clicking on the basic technology tells me that it "allows partial colonization". What penalties are applied under "basic" colonization?

If I remember correctly, you get only 50% production with basic colonization, and need advanced colonization in order to get the full 100% production from buildings. By the way, if you get a planet with a hostile environment that you have not researched at all (like through influence flip or diplomacy), you get 0% production.

AG3 is correct about military and social production. Oddly, though, research is unaffected by hostile environments.

Maybe its like the Dregin research philosophy.  People reasearch better in hostile envionments.  The threat of death is a powerful motivator.  LOL, with Dregin, it is "be creative or die".

Both colonization techs give you the ability to use 50% of the planet's planetary production. If you get both, the effects stack giving you 100% planetary production. In effect, they complete each other.

The only real difference between the two levels of colonization techs is: the advanced version can be researched after the basic version, and the advanced version costs more to research.
