who's chasing vasari?

Despite great economy of TEC and great strikecraft of Advent, Vasari still remain my favourite race in this wonderful game. They just have this unique elite feel and phase stabilizers making the game so much more comfortable to play... Anyway, there's one thing that bugs me about them.

I enjoyed their story a lot (after I actually read the manual after all those days of playing...) but there's one thing i'm failing to understand.

The guys who destroyed Vasari empire and are still chasing them, who are they? I doubt it's actually Advent, they don't seem strong enough to do what happened to Vasari...

Or maybe there's a fourth race planned for this game, a probable expansion pack material? Is there somewhere more reading material on the world except what we have in our manuals? I really like this universe and would enjoy learning more lore of it. Especially about those guys who killed Vasari empire.

It would be difficult to see this new enemy as another faction in any expansion due to there description and ability to take down the vasari empire with little resistance. BUT, it could be plausible if, as the vasari are slavers, they where experimenting on ways to subdue other races without the need for warfare, i.e. mass mind control, these experiments on vasari agents, ultimately went wrong, and created a super mind altering vasari, which went about quickly subverting the entire vasari empire (think Isaac Asimovs foundation series, you know those super telepaths that clicked a switch in your brain and made you a good little puppy, or a ravenous pitbull, depending on necessity). However as the experiments were far from completion the super agent(s), as that it was originally vasari, is much more adept at shredding or subverting vasari brains, than say TEC or especially Advent(who may be able to have offer protection due to there own brain zapping abilities) explaining why the vasari where so easily bulldozed and went insane trying to fight, and allowing the race to be introduced without obviously splattering the TEC and advent as well. Now if you see where im going with this, taking comments from previous posts about a possible alliance between the three current races to fight this new enemy in a game expansion, what if this were the case, and the three races need to combine so they have the vasari technologies, the TECS wealth, and the advents ability to protect the other two races to form an effective fighting empire against the old and subverted vasari empire. Maybe? maybe not, what do you think?
Not that im really expecting to predict the truth, but IF an expansion is planned, IF the story will be expanded and IF this new race/force,thing thats chasing the vasari is introduced, it will obviously necessary to be ablt fight them, and besides, i love speculating.

I think its something like the beast from Homeworld Cataclysm. An entity from phase space, released by the experimental lab released it and then in combination with the vasari nanotech it grew and started to assimilate the vasari empire, and now it expanding in the directon where it knows there is more ships to feed on. The fleeing vasari.

It has something to do with phase space. It was created at a transport lab, and the vasari more than any other race have been toying with phase space (stabilizer nodes, phase out hull, phase jump inhibitors, etc).

Exterminator is more than likely the closest, if you really analyze the story and information presented to us via manual and opening cinematic you know that something happened at an experimental transport lab at as the manual tells us, one of the core worlds of the Vasari empire. Which means the Vasari either summoned a presence right into the heart of thier empire via phase space, or more than likely managed to open a hole which this prescense decided to use as an opportunity to come through.

The manual also tells us that regarding the phase space inhibitors that the vasari never actually invented these things, they being too complicated for them to figure out and they instead resorted to nano copying these devices which where strwen about in uninhabited lands.

By the way for those of you wondering why the TEC and Advent have these devices too and you dont have a manual handy, TEC captured them from Vasari, Advent captured them from TEC.

So what is my guess regarding the origional question? More than likely a much older but more advanced race which already had a very high advanced phase capability on par or beyond with current day Vasari. Some kind of accident occured, likely the race trying to incorperate some kind of new transport ability, which caused a gigantic cataclysm, causing enitre populations upon worlds next to the experimental devices (the inhibitors) to be drawn into a kind of "phasic limbo". Where they have been held until who knows how many years later, when the Vasari began experimenting with the same technology that caused the cataclysm. Thus presenting a way of escape from the imprisoned phasic race.

Since these people have a more intimate knowledge of phasic space and technology (or whatever other kind of transport tech they had) then any other race in the galaxy, it makes sense that they would have been able to trump the Vasari's phase based weaponry and technology so easily, it would be like a sniper with a rifle outshooting a kid with a bb gun.

As for what they look like and what thier ships are like...well I wouldent count too much on an organic motif, just for all sorts of reasons. For asthetics, i'll let you guys beat that one out.

I don't really have a guess for what's chasing the Vasari, but I do want to say this:

For the love of humanity, no organic races!!!

They are so overdone, it's not even funny. And seriously, how would giant alien-ships survive in space?

Does anyone remember Babylon 5’s TV movie Thirdspace, in it the Vorlons created a portal to a third space (phase space??) where they encountered a race more powerful then they were, capable of MIND control (the crew went insane on B5 just like the Dark Fleet did)

Plus, lets looks at the story (if we can call it that), PHASE Space Inhibitors, ancients artifacts on planets and the Vasari Experimental Transport Lab.

Its most likely a highly advanced species from phase space that destroyed other races in the past(that would explain the ancient artifacts lying around the galaxy), the races that were wipe-out would have created the phase space INHIBITORS to resist this very powerful enemy).

The Vasari with they experiment invited this ancient enemy to return. They will probably appear in the expansion pack just like the Antarans did in Master of Orion II. They will act more or less like the TEC Rebel Ships do, attacking at random.

Please remember that this is just my opinion of how I see this developing. Thanx

seriously i think its the race that created those Phase Jump Inhibitor. if you read the manual, you see that the three race dont know what that thing really is...

When the first Phase Jump Inhibitor was recovered it was immediately clear that it was not Vasari origin - it was just too different from everything else...........

Its the same thing for the two other race with variant in what they think of it etc.

So, this powerful tools (700% space jump time... ouch) is from wich race? surely that ''Phase Race'' we are talking about.

Anyway, answer in the expansion.

I really like the idea that whatever is destroying the vasari, is what destroyed that previous, more advanced civilization that left the jump limiters.

What I would like to point out is that (on the box I think,) it said that the vasari are running from their own creation and in the manual it says like Arigner pointed out that the Phase Jump Inhibiters are not of Vasari orgin but older. So we've got an ancient (possibly) died out race and a phase expiriment gone wrong enough to steamroll the most powerful race known in the galaxy/and or universe and turn their most hardened crews into fear-crazed invalids.

To sum it up can't, wait for the expansion

Theory of the fading suns:

Because suns have only a limited lifespan, those cool out the fastest being the farest away from galactic core. Of course new suns are born from time to time, but even sun-birthing gas clouds are exhausted at some point.

So the general idea is the suns die from outside in according to entropic rules.

Space-traveller civilizations (and they have to become space-travellers or perish - living without a sun is not possible, except for hydrothermal vent communities feeding on tectonic energy) have to wander from outside in twoards the galactic core. Its leading to a gigantic galactic exodus coreward affecting the entire galaxy.

My guess is the coreward front of the exodus wave reached Vasari space and they got steamrolled by a neverending wave of hostile civilizations fighting for survival, eagerly working their way twoards the best worlds in the galactic core of their sector of the galaxy.

The Vasari moved themselves farther coreward, fleeing from the menace and now form themselves the spearhead of the exodus coreward front, as all the others do wich follow them.

It ultimately will lead to a gigantic war at the galactic core, fought by the most powerful space-travellers bend around the control of the last dying suns in the far future. Until even those perish.

The most beautiful aspect of this idea is there is always room for a new civilization joining the fight because the exodus wave throws everything there is in the sector sooner or later.

MRDread, and interesting proposition, but unreasonable.

What we know:

1. The vasari was a massive empire constantly conquering more and more.

2. The vasari were experimenting with dimensional effects.

3. There are ancient remnants of a destroyed civilization all over the galaxy.

4. The vasari lost contact with their homeworld, they they sent their entire fleet to it.

5. The entire fleet was destroyed except for one ship, which was breaking apart and the entire crew was driven insane with fear.

So inwards moving homeless civilizations make absolutely no sense in regards to that info. How did they suddenly overtake the vasari without even a message of WHAT was going on? How did they suppress all communication? how did they conquer / destroy so fast that nobody ever got word out of WHAT they were fighting? How come they are hunting the vasari down as the vasari are escaping outwards? how could they instantly destroy the entire vasari fleet (we are talking about a fleet that conquered MOST OF THE GALAXY!) How does it relate to the dimensional experiments at the phase jump laboratory? etc...

ooh, what a creative idea. Although I don't know about the beacon thing... but yea, maybe phase lane delay is not their purpose... or maybe it IS, but it is not complete, aka, whatever destroyed their civ, is destroying the vasari, and has to do with phase space. So the delayers were early deployments to slow them down, while they work on completely stopping them.

It's almost two years old, have some common sense, please. And if you're going to call other people stupid, it helps if; 1. You don't tell people to "fuck off," 2. Give the semblance of at least having a basic grasp of the rules of grammar and punctuation, and 3. Use a quote that actually exists. It's "their" not "there." How hard it is to get that right?

Funnily enough, that's because it was dead. And there are more recent threads about this same topic, but you choose to necro the one that has been dead for almost two years; and in the process you don't and anything new to the long dead conversation and you're an ass about it to boot.
