Playable out of box?

After playing Galciv 2 at a buddies place, and pretty much falling in love with it, I couldn't resist buying a copy. So, I snatched up my copy of the gold edition.

At home, I have no internet connection due to some current renovations, so I was wondering, is the game completely stable out of box? I don't know how I would update it if required. I am running an AMD 4200+ dual cpu, 2gigs of ram, nvidia 8600GT 256meg , and winxp pro w/service pack 2.

Oh, and I was refering primarily to stability and balance.... Is it totally required to install the updating patches from Gold release to current?

I don't want to say the game is bad out of the box, but you'd have to be crazy not to update it. It's 1000% more stable, and 10000% better feature wise. I would advise you to update it any way you can. Not doing so will probably make for a not so good gaming experience.

You can most definitely play it... it just might not be anything like the game the rest of us are playing

Well, since I have a valid serial number (that I have to register still) , can I download the patch from work (and burn it) or something and install it like that?

Yea you need to update or else you'll have a bug from 1.0.

"This major crash is getting the game locked up!"

Jub , how would that apply to me? My version is the gold version, with Dark Avatar, so shouldn't it be beyond galciv 2 release?

You can update the game on an offline PC as long as you have access(and admin rights preferably) to an online PC. Kryo explains it in reply #1 Here

Btw: The release Version of DA is 1.5, most likely the version you get on disc. It is Playable though it has a few quirks that were ironed out in updates.

Thanks DethAdder, I will give it a shot.

Chances are I might borrow a friends wireless setup and try to get enough of an internet connection off a neighbor, or just bring my systen to a friends place and do it all there hehe

Once you get it all patched up it might be worth your time to back the game up (using the Stardock central archive function). That way if you ever need to reinstall it you don't have to worry about the hassle of re-patching.
