New and confused!!

Ok so Ive really tried to understand this game, I've tried the ingame tutorials, looked for step by step instructions online, and even tried an hour in game trying to find my way around. All have just left me more confused! All i want to do is understand the basics of how to play, then hopefully ill learn the rest as I go. If anyone can give me some starting points, or point me in the direction of somewhere that can, Id be very appreciative!! Any help would be great.

You are in the right place. Spend a few hours and look around the forums - there are plenty of threads that help out new players.

The GC2 Wiki is also a good place to learn things...

A good starting point is the GalCiv2 Wiki:

A bit dated (pre-DA) but still chockablock with good information.

I myself favor sandbox mode over the campaign but that's personal preference.

There's lots of "beginner's tutorials" out there, look for:

1. Good Colony Rush strategies
2. Economy tutorials and Planetary development tactics
3. Diplomacy (its all about attitude )
4. Game winning tactics (Military, Diplomacy, Cultural Influence, Technology)

After you've read Bar'ds beginner guide, my guide was written just for people like yourself. It's 30+ pages now.

wow thnx alot guys, didnt expect that volume of replies. You;re helpful people.   Ill take a look at all of the guides mentioned..well, until i think i can go at it by myself!
