Missing Letters in Text

Does anyone else have missing alphabetical letters of text in their game? I guess for an explanation, see text in the 'tabs' of the attached screenshot.

It seems to appear all over the place, but mostly I notice it in the GNN updates as well as the list of improvements to build in the planet screen (probably because I am looking at these screens almost every turn). Doesn't seem to appear in other places where the font is the 'standard' GalCiv II font like tool tips.

I haven't really tried to nail down exactly on what screens it seems to appear but I have noticed a couple of things:

1. Turning off or scaling down anti-aliasing doesn't seem to affect it.

2. It mostly seems to occur when I first start/load a game and it usually gets better over time, although it sometimes seems when there is a lot of 'activity' and long waits between turns (CPU/hard drive really busy) that I notice it more.

I noticed it both in the latest official update as well as 1.1 b3.

I have a Radeon 9700 Pro 128 w/latest drivers, Athlon 2400+, 768M physical memory, 1G of fixed page file, XP SP2.

Try increasing the size of your page file to 1.5 GB. From your description, sounds like something is eating up system memory, and your system is having a hard time keeping up with the rendering.

As a tip, XP sp2 doesn't really run optimally unless you have at least 1GB of system RAM. Also, if you could post a debug.err log that may help.

I have a similar problem, except that it is ALL text in my game.

Since I've updated to 1.1 b3 I havent been able to see most of the text in my game, heres a screenshot to explain a little better.

as a side note, i had absolutely NO graphics errors before i updated to the new beta.

Did you reboot after updating to the Beta? You need to or else you get the blank text thing

I just was able to start the new beta and have the same issue as crackma. No text at all on the startup screen.

I think I read somewhere that we may have to turn off the modding files - it is looking for .png files in the mod directory that are not there. I'll see if I can find the earlier thread in the 'forum thread stew' where thesolution was made. (This is when i hate not having a search or find all posts by a user function as I posted on that thread. )

ON EDIT: A reboot solved the issue for me. I removed the debug log - son't want to hijack the thread for another problem. My apologies to the OP.

I have exactly the same problem as dpalau, except:

I had the issue since version 1.0
I have 1gb ram,
9800pro latest drivers

Yeah that is the exact same problem that I was about to post...

When I recently downloaded the new beta 2A from stardock central, I ran across a number of errors including ship hardpoints being illogically flipped and then after a minuite of tweaking flipped back around to the appropriate direction (Altarian starting Small ship build) and random crashes here and there. These are annoying but not critical to my enjoyment of the game.

What IS hampering to my enjoyment of the new version of the game is the fact that almost ALL heading and text (including the text in the buttons of the main screen, text in the civilization construction screens, text in pop-up explanation boxes, text in the research tree, and planetary names and ship name data are invisible. In fact the ONLY text that does show up are the texts in the tutorials and the detail boxes for ships planets and research techs.


so just a restart is needed? thx I will try that.

I increased my page file to 2gb and that seems to have fixed the problem. I just did a quick test and I didn't have any issues. Thanks for the advice.
