Conquering Planets

These are probably by design

The Dread Lords conquered a planet. Then I took it back. They were upgrading the Factories and Labs. I don't have this tech so why are these being upgraded after being recaptured? This is like capturing the technology except I cannot upgrade my other planets.

Speaking of the conquering planets, when a technology that causes damage to the planet quality or infrastructure is used, Why is the damage only applied when the attack is successful and the planet lost?

Dread Lords seem to build ships just fine without the requisite Factories and Labs...

"Chief, those guys were doing something to this structure. Looks like an upgrade. If I put enough of my guys on this, we can nut out what they were trying to do.
They've got a lot of odd equipment laying around, it probably all belongs inside, no idea how it works though. It also seems they were using this wierd building material. We've probably got enough to fix this up, but I've got nothing to go on to make any more."

A dozen troopships with 1 soldier each would completely destroy a planet without even setting foot on the ground. Too exploitable.

That damage only happens on a succesful conquest can also be exploited. For example if you have a bunch of transports lined up to take over some enemy planet with a huge population you can send them in 1 at a time and use some cheap planetbusting tactics (massdrivers maybe) on the first few ones in order to wear down the enemy. Then go for traditional warfare when they are low enough to be conquered.

Ummm no? How exaclty would you wear them down when the bonus don't carry over from one battle to the next....

Yes, it's potentially an 'exploit' whichever way they did it.

Sending 1 guy over in a troop transport to wipe out the entire contents of their planets in a total exploit in every situation.


Using destructive tactics to wear down an opponent before a final attack with non-destructive tactics is exploitable, but far less so. You also stand a chance of actually succeeding on your first try and accidentally wiping out the planet you take. Whoops, maybe it's not so good to try that unless you're completely outnumbered, in which case you'll probably barely scratch them anyway.

I'm not sure why this is an exploit. If you are attacking with a mode that causes a drop in planetary quality or infrastructure and you can afford the cost of multiple attacks, and you can afford to lose the transports, then what is your purpose but to decimate the planet. I wouldn't want to capture the colony. If my lone soldier did capture it I wouldn't want to keep the colony. I would simply destroy the colony.

Attack modes that decrease Planet Quality and infrastructure (buildings) cost mone for each attack.

It takes time to build transports and population is cheap.

I don't have that kind of money to waste. I don't know where everyone else is getting theirs. I can't build transports and attack ships fast enough as it is, to waste them on an attack like this. BTY, I have only played the Campaign thus far.

In todays news the Dread Lord Industrial sector upgrade was completed and turned on in alpha sector. It promptly went critical and destroyed a 500 kilometer area. On a positive note, the second industrial sector upgrade is ahead of schedule and will be started early next week in this city. The mayor is confident that nothing will go wrong this time.
