Approval, who cares?

Is there any point to having the approval for a colony be above 30 but below 100 before you have a government type? It seems you get (or should get, it seems like a bug in the campaign) a 100% population growth bonus for 100% approval, and population growth stoppage for less than 30, but besides that, is there any advantage to having a higher approval rating?

Unhappier people are more likely to rebel...but other than that, you can tax to the moon and not worry about it (besides your own guilt, of course)

Oh. Approval rates directly affect your senate and war votes, so you DO have a reason to stay above 50% to guarentee that you stay in control of the senate and that you can rage/pillage/make them watch western movies as you please

I think it would be nice if your population growth rate on each planet was determined by its approval rating.

Instead of requiring 100% approval to instantly double the population growth, have the number scale more evenly so that a planet with 90% approval grows twice as fast as one with only 45% or something like that?

This way, you would always need to decide between long term population growth and short term income.

Approval doesn't seem to matter much until you upgrade your government. Then you'd better keep the peeps happy or they'll vote you out of office or worse.

So, if you are a Galactic Despot, never upgrade to a Republic and you'll be a Happy Little Dictator.

Brad/Frogboy has stated he would like to have bonuses for high approval ratings such as a boost to production. So maybe we will see this added in a future update.

Also, get your morale too low, and your empire will split in half, with the AI in control of the other half.

I'm averaging 93% approval plus, while having only 1 media center per planet and maybe a morale resource. 50% taxes is fun! And remember, "He who has the gold, makes the rules." I just crushed an AI so bad that I'm going to be upping the difficulty next time...

If you plan on upgrading your governmental type from imperial I reccomend keeping your happiness around 70%+.

Otherwise the senate will blast your party bonuses into the negatives, Systems are far more likely to break off from your empire, etc.
