The logistics part makes sense that makes the game sort like Twilight Imperium. Still even in those games you have retreat cards and ablites that pop up. Its a bit unwieldy to say that every single ship fights to the death yet empires will roll over when they know they are beat. I am just saying consider adding a upgrade later on that takes unit withdrawal into account.
I could see some races as always fighting to the death no retreat, but the fact is most would rather salvage one or two ships from a cruical lost battle rather than being wiped out to the single last survior. Look at any major WW II naval battle and you will see that most the time battles were fought then new battles erupted when the victorous fleets tried to destroy the retreating enemy not many escaped but enough did that each nation could then dry dock the surviors and continue their naval war. Space battles are no different. Keep in mind even though its empire wide game morale does play effect.
IE "Captain the enemy just destroyed our Fleet flagship and it escorts!!" Your orders sir ? pick response typcial in combat when this Captain being trained for years in command decides his reaction:
A) Well young one bend over and kiss your nether regions goodbye. We fight till the last even though that battleship and its fleet now outguns us 3,000 to 1.

Ensign engage the hyper drive max speed burn out the engines if you have to but get us out here now! ( Most likely course of actions when the battle becomes unwinable but the resulting running battle might still destroy the said ship before it makes safety)
C) Cadet contact the enemy Inform them we wish to surrender or (see d below if the enemy is barbaric in treatment of captives). This option would allow the enemy to capture a free hull for use in the follow up battles as decoy new war ship sucide decoy so on.
D) Cadet contact the enemy inform them we wish to discuss surrender terms (since they eat thier captives), while at the same time contacting the master at arms of the ship and informing him/her to excute self destruct sequence gamma as the enemy closes. Obviously a trick like this would only happen once in a major war as afterward the enemy would order destruciton of all surrendering vessels of military origin.
Dont get me wrong i will still play and enjoy the game but not every race in the galaxy isnt borg they dont fight to the last ship or entity.
I am not trying to make the game overly complex but the fact is you dont spend 150 million credits on a state of the art ship. Spend years training the best surving military members to be captains just to order them to fight to the last on a battle that 's lost (when that ship will be needed for the next enemy offensive). Even if you do order them to fight to the last theres no guarntee that races with individualism concepts will obey.
IE Where do you think military style pirates in many galactic sci fi movies orginate? Most from lost battles where they cant return to their home for fear of excution for desertion in a lost battle usally or they retreated when their colony world was destroyed and have no place to go so start out as privateers.
(PS please disregard the bad gramar and/or spelling)
