Vincible: the sub-15 giveaway turned out to be a two-edged sword. I believe it did help, and in a game where I needed a ton of help, perhaps without that move I wouldn't have won. Yet the sub-15's were much easier for the Torian's enemies to capture, and once one had been captured, others started to fall slowly to flips. Player can destroy his own colonies if they present a dire flip risk. You can't take back one of these giveaways, though. So this move has more risks than rewards, I'd say. Ther

I just finished my seventh Maso game. I've won five of them, but this latest win was quite an epic adventure. I posted a report to the Realms Beyond forum. http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/message?forumid=237344&messageid=1066152493 That's actually the RB MOO3 forum, but that game is dead and we may convert that forum to GalCiv if enough of the RB community takes up interest in this game. We have only eight players signed up for our Metaverse Empire so far, but others may be

Maxtipherous? You are quick to chide me about showing respect while yourself stepping all over my thread. Where and whom did I disrespect merely by posting an opinion? Who do you think you are, to tell me I don't have the right to voice my opinion without first checking the entire mass of this forum to see if anybody else ever said something similar before? What does it matter what others had to say? This is what I had to say. My saying it is a whole heck of a lot less disrepectful to anybody th

Paguma, I understand, even appreciate your original point. The AI does exploit the crap out of anybody that looks remotely weak, militarily. In only my third game (second one I submitted), back on "challenging" difficulty, I learned that paying concessions was a waste of time and resources (for the most part). They come back for more too quickly, and the demands keep increasing. So I quickly saw that the "farmer's gambit" (little to no military, while you pour all your resources into ra

I would like to see an additional Bonus Ability at startup: Alignment shift! Spend one pick to gain or lose 10 alignment points (minor shift toward good or evil), spend three picks for a 20 point shift, and spend five picks for a 30 point shift. Players could then START as either good or evil right out of the box... for a price. I would also like to see improvements to the scoring system, as outlined in my thread, "Weakness in the Scoring System". Finally, I would like to see a

I just got GalCiv a couple of weeks ago and have been playing it almost every day. I've been enjoying the game immensely, and (as of this writing) have nearly broken into the top 100 on the Metaverse. With a dozen games under my belt now, however, some issues with the scoring system have already shown up. 1) A player's total Metaverse Score involves a formula that sees the total drop if a lower than average (for that player) score is submitted. Or thereabouts. This point raises a host o

Cultural Flip Issues: I had a colony on a PQ13 that was in a sector next to a sector with a PQ20+ rival planet. (Rare habitables, so that 13 was important to me!). Despite my best efforts at resistance and influence, the PQ13 eventually failed a saving throw and got the rebel mark on it. That meant one more failed roll and the planet would flip. Since I had another planet in the sector behind that one, I decided to abandon the PQ13 to be sure to protect the other one. There was ALSO a m

I lost the tech race to a friendly rival in my latest Maso game. The game didn't end on the spot? I was allowed to play on, to continue. I kept going, as I was already on the last tech myself, but when I got to Final Frontier sixty turns later, the game didn't end then either. What gives? Is that is how the "Alien Tech Victory" is supposed to work? It doesn't actually cause you to lose, but instead takes the tech victory off the table? I could have won by Alliance some 120+ turns before

Oh, just remembered one more issue: INACCURATE TECH COMPLETION ESTIMATES. When I fiddle with the sliders, trying to get a key tech faster or to get a tech to come in without wasteful overspending, the "months to go" estimate is often erroneous, sometimes even by huge margins, though usually minor. It will sort itself out the following turn, but that won't help me if I'm trying to put just enough to finish research on that turn. I tried "adding a cushion" of minor overload, but that does

There is a bug/loophole involving elimination of a major civilization. After you wipe out a rival, you can still talk to their ghost on the same turn as you eliminated them. You can "make peace" with this ghost, and thereby extract free techs or other concessions. And since their strength is zero and yours is higher, they will give you pretty much whatever they have left. Surely these gifts cannot be intended? I just won my second Masochistic (Ix5) game, and I got Overlord tech for free

Invisible Ship Bug (Graphical error): I scanned the thread for signs of this issue but didn't see any reports on it. I am getting frequent display errors involving ships of only one or two types at a time. The graphics for the ship appear not to be loading: both on the map, and mini-icons for orbit. The ships are still there, and the game plays on as normal, but friend or foe, all ships of that type from all empires will simply be invisible. Other, older ship types behave normally. Invi
