I note that when I build production starbases, the bonuses show up under "Starbase Bonuses" on the colony detail screen of any nearby planets. But no such bonus appears for influence starbases. My impression is that I don't seem to be getting the appropriate influence bonuses when I track my influence graph. Is there any way for me to tell whether the influence bonuses from starbases are being correctly applied? I wish it would show up in the plane

Greatly enjoying GalCiv2 so far, but I'm not sure if the following is a bug or a questionable design decision: When you click the cultural borders "tab" on the minimap, it shows the cultural borders for the whole galaxy even if you haven't explored yet. So on the first turn you can find out where all of your opponents are, and make a good guess as to where their homeworlds are by looking at the center of the circles. Shouldn't the influenc

I never seem to have much problem with diplomacy in regular games of GalCiv. But I'm playing the Altaran Prophecy expansion campaign and I can't seem to keep on the good side of the Altarans. I'm only on scenario two, where I need to boost my relationship to "close" to win. I'm playing on "Crippling" difficulty. In my current game, I've got 5 trade routes with the Altarans. I'm constantly giving them gifts of tech, probably one technology every 4-5 turns. I'm giving them massive am

Thanks to you guys for the strategy tips. I submitted my first Masochistic/Gigantic win under 1.3x a few minutes ago. Man it's a lot harder with 1.3x than 1.2x! But I think I've got the hang of it. Once I have 4-6 trade goods that the computer players don't have I can really make things happen. I was surprised at how much fight the computer had even in the end game, though. Under 1.2, by the time I got Overlord tech I could smash the computer player without even going on a war foot

Frogboy, could you clarify the part that Ellestar quotes? Are you saying that any submissions of Masochistic / Gigantic galaxy are presumed suspect? I'm going to win my current Masochistic/Gigantic game, with the latest patch and I don't want to submit the score if it's going to cause me trouble. Needless to say I'm winning fairly. It's still possible to win on Masochistic/Gigantic, there just isn't as much room for error!

For what it's worth, in my current game I have a minor civ sort of isolated away from the enemy civs. I've actually managed to get some tribute out of them. The key seems to be that they aren't trading with any other civs, and so aren't entering into long-term tribute situations with anyone but me. My current strategy for Gigantic/Masochistic revolves around trying to isolate at least one minor civ and (with luck) one of the major civs such that they become, in effect, vassals that I

There's a significant problem with the new trading routines, at least at the higher difficulty levels. I took Diplomacy +50 and had Diplomatic Translators and simply could not sell tech to the AI. They wouldn't buy anything, even good stuff, for more than a couple of BC (lump sum). Diplomatic skill is useless if it means you can get 2 BC instead of 1 BC for your tech.

I was getting a handle on Masochistic/Gigantic level games before the 1.03 patch and could usually win unless I had a very bad starting position. But I'm getting slaughtered now. In my last game, I started in a moderately sized cluster far away from the rest of the galaxy. I shared it with the Torians but I had selected speed +, so I was able to grab about 18 star systems to their 9. I thought this was a good position: One civ nearby with far fewer planets, and space would protect

Does the AI on higher difficulty levels have some sort of innate planet quality advantage? In the game I just started I'm right next to the Torians and the Yor Collective. It's still *very* early in the game (we're still colonizing planets) and I notice that neither AI civ has any planets of less than 20 quality. Most are 21-23, and each has several in the 24-26 range. Most of my planets are either 15 or 16. Even the planet quality +5% ability plus soil enrichment plus habitat cont
