to Zubaz : I've had it happen on .txt and .html files as well. Also, Fences isn't good about updating the icons on the desktop. I've noticed that when I empty the recycle bin, or delete all the files in a directoy that is on the desktop, it often doesn't (allow) update them, and leaves them displaying as

I've been experiencing this bug with fences for a while. I'm running Vista 32, with all patches. I've noticed that this starts up after some odd Fence error (I copy (using CNTL+V) a file from an open file explorer window, click on an open area of my desktop, and pick paste (i'm making a copy that I'm going to eventually bundle for archiving to a USB storage). Nothing happens. Check around, nothing. Try it again, and I either get more nothing, or Fences suddenly starts popping open TWO
I like the cloth map. My only complaint with it is that EVERYTHING is flat. If the "colored bits" were raised (or indented), it would be very cool--- and very INFORMATIVE. Can we get some embordery on our cloth map? (wink) I have managed to have fun with Beta1, so far. What can I say? I love discovery, and I have patience for games--- when I know I should have patience with a game. [quote who="cephalo" reply="13" id="2377069"]Designable units worked great in MOO and Galciv, ma
I have very slow scrolling as well. This is what I've found to get around it: With NO unit selected, left click on the map. That will center the map on that point. To continue on, just click again on where you want the map to center.
Who doesn't read the EULA? Don't you want to know what you are legally agreeing to before you jump in?
Alpha Centauri is just Mom meets Civ. Custom Units (MoM) and everything else Civ. But the FLAVOR of the game--- it's look, the Faction Leaders doing most of the voice overs for the techs and the wonders --- that created a serious atmosphere for the game. What I want from Elemental? A lot of inspiration from Mom. All the rest of those games can go jump into a lake, as MoM had everything but the "Castles" storyline. I am confident that StarDock will make a great game. They've do
Wouldn't a beta wiki do the trick? As long as we version the beta we are talking about, it should allow for us to develop useful documentation for each other.
Well, at this point, Beta 1 is fun for me. It's the discovery of what is there, and how things work, and how far I can push things. If that isn't the sort of fun you have, and you need a "almost completely fleshed out" game, then you might want to come back in a few release cycles and check back. BTW, is there a wiki site for use early sloggers to go to post our "how this works" or read other's tips on such?
Humm... main page says June, and its July 1 as of this post. Would be nice if they updated that to September.
MoO3 was meant to be: 1) The best of MoO1 2) The best of MoO2 3) Designed exclusively around MP, with SP being purely a trainer for MP 4) State of the art See a problem here? That MP is why in SP sucked so much. See, you were going to be an Emperor--- and only get 5 to 10 minutes, per turn, to do everything you want, enforced by the game itself. All else flowed from that. How do I know? I was a fan consultant. The Art Director, Lead
Wasn't sensors already nerfed to give a max range of 15? I'm against nerfing cargo sensor ships. They are just the game's equivalence of AWACS.
Were those worlds ones that the Drengin had captured from Minors? I've noticed minors have some sort of initial delay in building, so if I take over their worlds, they are very low on actually built tiles. Takes forever to turn that into something useful without rush buying. Or were those worlds late colonized? If you colonize worlds after you've discovered factories or enhanced factories, it's very difficult to get them up to speed because it takes so long to build the current factor
Crobderg, turn on your battle viewer for all battles. You'll get to see how your design tweaks do in actual combat. It's fairly informative. MoO2's actual tactical layer didn't really add much to MoO2. It wasn't big enough to allow for a good variety of tactics. MoO3's tactical layer is big enough, but it has other things preventing it from being tons of fun.
I think they should just blast the planets apart. Be easier to implement, and allows defended worlds to scramble out of orbit and attack the Terror Star. It seemed very cheesy to have a Terror Star capable of blowing up an entire system unopposed in GalCiv1. The AI should treat them like bombers--- that's what they are. Of course, that leads into the topic of why space bombers are bad.
Have you thought to place an ad in GamaSutra? I'd come knock on your door, but Michigan is a bit too far for me. Gotta stay close to my parents to help them out and look after them.
Master of Magic's appeal is that it is so customizable while you play. Designing your heroe's magical artifacts, bespelling your heroes, units, cities, etc. AoW:SM never came close to that. SMAC is the game that comes closest to MoM in granting you the ability to design your own units and alter the terrain to suit your needs. Most players I know that like MoM also liked SMAC. AoW, while fun and all, is not anything like MoM. It's just another HoMM.
1) the weapon types do have a difference. It is basically amounts to: Missiles do lots of damage, but takes lots of space and costs more to put on your ships. Lasers take less space, and are cheap to put on your ships, but do little damage. Mass drivers are average, taking average space and doing average damage. Overall, they tend to be near equal in the amount of actual firepower that can be put on target, regardless of which branch you choose. 2) Ships suffer damage. They
amaevis, I believe I understand your point. And that you understand mine. However, you've got some of your American history incorrect. The original Confederation of American failed because participation of the individual members states voluntarily participated to their own degree at the Federal level. Funding, enforcment, laws, trade, etc. This is the situation we have with the current UN. Where you go wrong: It was the creation of the United States of America th
Citizen Suralle, fear not. The AI no longer votes to levy itself. Heck, it doesn't vote to put a levy on its new enemies. It's worst enemy, that it might vote a levy against. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- re: UN The UN is a joke, but not because of underfunding. It's a joke because the vast majority of the entities involved in it are playing a Zero Sum Game. They don't believe in cooperating for the betterment of all; they only b
Overflight prevented Nuclear War. Status Quo is what prevented Nuclear War. A couple of timely assassinations of Russian Generals and Strategists by other Russian Generals and Strategists is what prevented Nuclear War. The UN had nothing to do with it. Indeed, the UN has had a hand in trying to accelerate the spread and usage of nuclear weapons because it allows countries to shay "The UN will handle it" and "The UN would never allow it" when in fact the UN has been bought off or just been guilt
No. The UN is a joke. It's not just the US that has the power to completely countermand things. China and Russia can as well. There are a few other countries that can as well. The UN is a joke for most things. Take the Nuclear Inspections. Complete joke. It always takes a defector from a project for anyone to find out about it. The only thing the UN is good at is skimming money off of all the nations of the world and getting their wicks wet via wetters that are u
If you ordered GalCiv2, you will be able to download it from StarDock, forever (well, so long as Star Dock is successfully in business). You just need your serial number. I suspect that if you pre-ordered GC2 from Star Dock, they will email you your serial number. This will allow you do download the game via Star Dock Central. A few days later, the actual game box, CD, manual, etc will show up. IIRC, this is what Star Dock did when GC1 was released. I don't know about those
The best way is to build a ship and chase around their ships. You'll be able to look at the basic combat stats of their ships/fleets. This will let you know if the Drengin are mounting Missiles, Drivers, or Beamers. It won't let you see their precise component listing without some espionage spending, but you will get to see that 2 of their Heavy Cruisers as a fleet have 10 Beam, 14 Armor and 30/30 hit points, for instance. If you want to know the precise components on an alien ship, you need to
Tactics: It is Frogboy's opinion that a tactical layer is just a crutch for players so that players won't have to use their brains to do strategy. The reason for this is that players invariably find the exploits in the tactical layer, and then use them. For instance, in Acsendancy, you get Large hulls, and fill them up with the passive damage absorders, leaving just enough room for an engine, power plant, and a weapon. Then, you can fight all the tactical battles you want to, and never lose beca
Yes. You can put lots of structures on mount points (hardpoints) that are purely a structure (no cost). Then you can out ship components (engines, weapons, etc) that do cost on the new structure, and/or put even more structures on it.
