nice as this is... um... what does this have to do with anything? I was simply paying hommage to your analytical effort. Since you don't seem to care for compliments, I will move along ... um ...

@ SchematicNinja : Our opinion on your "genius" is irrelevant : you obviously invested a lot of time & trouble in the thoughtful composition of your lengthy (and very detailed) post. That effort merits respect, whatever our opinions might be -- for or against your suggestions.

Believe me, I'm a TBS nerd who is incompetent in RTS games, and this one (against comps on "easy") is really not difficult to manage : it cannot become any more simple. You have to practice, to get used to the interface, the camera, and the build & research routines. Start with a comp ally in a 2 v 1, on one star-system, with 33 planets : just to get the hang of things. Believe me : I'm a RTS amateur, and I have found that game quite simple to manage. Of course, I woul

If you have WinXP, the "crashdump file" could be located here : C:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\[a new folder identified as a dump IF one was generated]* *In my case, no such folder has been created yet, because the 4 freeze-crashes I have experienced not only froze the game-program : they also froze the whole system, requiring a hardware reboot. You can also e-mail a detailed account (with the attachme

Thanx, Yarlen. I shall re-select the SDC option, and go visually hunting for those rare & subtle celestial phenomena. _________________________________________ Concerning my previous posts (#50, 117 & 118), which described a total game & system freeze, it happened to me for a 5th time, yesterday evening, but that time, I could un-freeze and continue the game! The sequence of events was : 1. Loss of mouse functionality 2. Music then switched to a repetitive audio stutte

I don't know what the "Show Dust Clouds" option does : Checked or unchecked, that option does not seem to have any effect on the appearance of the game. P.S. What I described in the previous post just happened for a 4th time : abrupt loss of mouse + loss of keyboard + game & system freeze + repetitive audio stutter. On this occasion, the game was paused and I was not touching anything. Odd : It does not happen in my other games. Only solution left, then : press the re

MAJOR FREEZE-CRASH (3rd occurrence : see my reply #50 for a full account of the 2 other events + my system specs). Symptoms : Sudden loss of mouse + loss of keyboard + frozen game-screen + slight sound stuttering. No Ironclad or Smart Exception report was initiated because everything seemed frozen (except the repetitive sound stuttering). When? : On the first 2 occasions (see reply #50), I was doing nothing (not even touching the mouse & keyboard). This time, the free

ERROR MESSAGE : I had just left the "Advanced Interface" tutorial and was arriving on the Menu. A series of small letters and numbers, in RED, was superimposed on top of the center of the screen. It composed the following message : Sync Error. [Player=0] [Tick=45270] The message did not interfere with clicking and navigating around, but followed me when I went to examine other menus and screens. I could have tested to see if th

Beta 2 : Major freeze-crashes during the tutorial (on 21 June). I'm new to the SSE beta. I have downloaded B2 on 21 June and have only played on that day, attempting to do the tutorial. TWO major crashes then happened, which made me lose interest in the game (for a few days). Before you blame my computer, please be aware that the "freeze-crashes" I will describe have NEVER happened before in any of my numerous PC games. Also, please consider that my XP/SP2 system NEVER crashes

Agreed! I'm better at TBS games than at RTS games, so if I cannot slow down the speed in a RTS, my micromanagement style gets frustrated (and I become really stressed). In the opposite direction, players who are impatient RTS veterans would probably want to speed up things (since they prefer the tactical frenzy of combat-operations to the grand-strategic snooze of empire-micromanagement).

"Porcupine" must be right. Popularity is based on the degrees of quality of your diplomatic relationships with the other empires. I suppose that it is calculated by averaging the various degrees (positive and negative) of all your diplomatic relationships. The imperial averages are then compared to produce an overall Popularity ranking.

The update fee idea really goes against the spirt of what they're trying to sell with this game. I'd never buy another Stardock game if they implemented a 'pay for patch' system. [...] Pay for patch? No one else in the industry does that. Perhaps I was not clear and specific enough in my previous post. I totally agree with both of

Avatar Brad Wardell : "Does that $20,000 two-page spread in a game magazine generate 2X in sales of the game?" Reply : $20 000 ?! Your excellent game does not require a two-page spread! I "feel" that it is a waste of money. One page in the 3 major PC-games mags should be enough. P.S. Even though the following observation is off-topic, I would suggest that you charge a small fee for the updates which will follow 1.2 (before the release of the expansion). From 1.0 to 1.2, you

Reply to : Thanks for your ideas to improve my diplomatic relations with the A.I. players, but you do not address my main point, in reply to Mr Wardell's statement : "Another thing I did was change the way the AI handles bribes/gifts so that players won't necessarily (easily) just give it a bunch of goodies, crank relations up to close and ally." I was stating that in my experience, the gifts of free techonologies to t

A few modest observations from an amateur, Mr Wardell : 1. You said : "I think I've gotten it so that [the A.I. players] won't build a gagillion embassies or entertainment centers. The cause seems to be that those two types of buildings were not defined and as a result there was no limit on how many of that "kind" of building could be made." I believe there is a civilizational principle involved in that matter which should be applied to Human players. At the moment, we can

Please indicate the music-track list in the audio options and allow the user to change tracks at will. As it is, the music can become very tiresome. In my current game, I had to turn off the music because the same track had been playing over and over again for the past hour, and it was a heavy track that gave me a headache. I prefer the "New Age" style of "cosmic" music which plays at the very beginning of the game. It is a big issue for me at the moment : I need some musi
