The issue here isn't that there should never be a negative consequence to a policy. It's that the player should have a choice to decide if, of the policies available, does the cost of choosing it outweigh the benefit. That is normal. But the player should also be allowed to choose to do nothing. So we should be able to proceed to the next turn without being forced to fill the slot at that time.
Exactly.</p

Glad to see there are many others that want their grid also. Give us back our grid! (without having to do some sort of manual file manipulation fix)
Ya side note, I have since received some trade offers from Torians and Onyx Hive (in a new game) that seemed pretty fair trades. Maybe it's just those damn Altarians, that think way too highly of themselves, that offer horribly lopsided trade deals...
One thing that really bugged me all the way back to GalCiv III and now still with GalCiv IV, is the background for the map. I understand you want to have like a thematically cool looking backdrop, with stuff like nebula clouds and cool colors and lights and sparkles "behind" the map we are playing on; but sometimes is it just really annoying. It makes it hard to see the actually important stuff on the map at times. Fortunately I found a kind of "fix" for this long ago back in the days of GalC
That's because Orbital Repair leads right to Medium hulls. I'd take that deal.
Meh, I'd still say they greatly overcharged for what they were offering. The time invested to research the tech is the primary "value" to me. So unless I was absolutely desperate for a specific tech, no way I would consider giving up almost triple the amount of research time in techs, plus a huge chunk of several other of my other resour
Yeah the governor loyalty mechanics are pretty confusing at the moment. One thing I THINK I noticed, is that the loyalty penalty for assigning a leader as governor is less if they have stats that effect planetary governing. Like if they have a little icon on their pic that says "+10% food as governor" or one that says "+10% manufacturing and +10% pollution as governor". If they have those little icons that effect planet governing stats, I think those are the leaders that don't take the full -
Is it just the "new norm" that we can't give upgrades to non-survey ships when they level now? Or is it a bug? Inquiring minds wanna know. I don't want to waste my precious scarce leader resources; by assigning them as commanders for ships that are just going to be obsoleted in a very short amount of time, because they can't be upgraded.
So been playing the .77a version on test. Just got a trade offer from the Altarians. The offered me Open Borders, and some low-mid level tech (I think it was Orbital Repair or something like that). In return they wanted me to give them three other techs with a combined research time that was more than double (almost triple) the research time of the tech they were offering (and one of the techs was a military weapons tech); they also wanted about half of my Antimatter, about ha
Eyes of the Universe says it gives a culture point. Actually it says it gives several culture points, if you build it someplace that gives it level bonuses; that obviously is not supposed to be like that. However, it gives ZERO culture points. A big fat NONE. Not to be confused with a big fat NUN. Happy bug squashing!
The research relics have changed color, and now almost perfectly match the map's dark background color. I discovered this completely by accident, when I noticed some tooltip flash up as I was moving the mouse cursor around. Lo and behold, I had moused over a research relic that I did not even see was there. Now that I kinda know what to look for, I might be able to spot research relics, but they are very very very hard to see in their current color.
Still not able to upgrade anything but survey ships. I thought this was going to be fixed. Is this a permanent change now?
This makes me sad :(
Yeah I posted about this before also. I'm really not a fan of being forced to pick something that sucks, just to be able to advance to the next turn. It is extremely counter intuitive to "advance" to a new better technological level, and then be forced to screw yourself over when you have supposedly just done something that should make your empire "better". It seems like an extremely horrible idea to punish the player for researching something new that should be improving their civili
I'm checking out the .77a test version and quick thing I noticed right away, the hex grid goes away if I'm not zoomed out a ways. I tried fiddling around with settings but can't figure out a way to make it stay ON all the time, regardless of zoom level. So how do I adjust settings to make the hex grid stay ON all the time? I really hate not being able to see my ranges accurately; especially when I'm trying to zoom in close. Usually when I'm zooming in close it is exactly because I wan
Ah ok, guess my free snow day is going to waste. Good luck with the bug squashing !
No update coming today? Sad :(
Wednesday works, hopefully early Wednesday. Thanks ! [e digicons][/e]
So there is a blizzard hitting my area tonight/tomorrow. Any chance the new update is coming out today so I can spend all day playing new updated Galciv IV while I'm stuck at home for a few days? [e digicons]:|[/e] Happy Tuesday !
Are these changes coming early today? (please [e digicons][/e] ) Happy Monday !
Quoting AdamMG, reply 3 it is better to go after big clusters first What is better about bigger clusters? Whatever the mechanic is, the UI should indicate it. Mystery mechanics are bad.
Eac
Yes to this. It would be nice to have a reminder somewhere of what my civs core stats/strengths/weaknesses are somewhere. Happy Monday !
Ok so I discovered that one of the Terran Resistance ships didn't seem to be upgradeable, and I thought it was a bug. Now I just discovered that two of the Terran Alliance ships are also not upgradeable anymore. I noticed the commonality between the ships that I can't upgrade is that they are not survey ships. The Commander ships that are capable of surveying seem to be able to upgrade, the one's that can't survey don't seem to be able to upgrade. This seems to be new w
The Terran Resistance commander's ship named "Pyxis Five" says that it gets +1 Kinetic attack per level, and also +1 Moves per level. I think it is getting the bonus kinetic attack each level, but I know it is definitely NOT get the bonus moves per level. Also, when it levels it does not give the player any upgrade options. Maybe it doesn't let the player give any upgrades because it is already getting two automatic upgrades every level? It makes me sad I can't customize any upgrades for it;
Could you please get rid of the thing that forces you to pick a policy? There are some policies that just plain suck, especially early on, because they have some penalties that are not worth it (imo). Unfortunately, you can't advance to the next turn because it just pushes you back into the policy selection screen. So you are forced to take a policy that you don't want to eat the penalty on, just to continue to the next turn. Having more policy options should NOT penalize you by forcing you i
When starting a new game, I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to know how many sectors I am getting with the "Number of Sectors" slider. The first setting says "Singular", ok great I can figure that out. The next setting up says "Binary", ok so that means two I imagine. The next setting up says "A Few", so is that three? Next setting up on the slider says "Several", ok now I have no clue, maybe four or five or what? And the highest position on the Number of Sectors slider says "Galactic", which I hav
On the start screen where you are selecting all the settings for a new game, could we get some more mouse over info for what all the buttons do? One specific example is selecting the galaxy size. I would really like to know how many sectors each step up creates. For example on the last game I started, I picked the middle setting for galaxy size, the largest setting for sector size, and I think 12 opponents. I was just taking a blind shot in the dark, hoping there would be one or two civilizat
