I'm having difficulty making up my mind as to whether or not to play with surrenders on. I'd really like to hear from some experienced players on this subject. Just in case it matters, I play with: - 9 races, and 6 minors - huge galaxy, infrequent stars - "very slow" tech rate - tech victory and ascension victory disabled - no tech trading, no tech brokering Thanks in advance

Is there a button (or any other type of command) that "activates" all of my ships? By activate I mean takes ships off of guard or sentry mode and clears orders? Thanks in advance I was just declared war apon after a long period of peace, and I can't afford to have some of my fleets sitting unactively guarding some far off, out of the way resource mining base. also: what buttons toggle through your ships? I use to know this, but it's been a while since I've neede

My apologies; I meant to post in a GC2 thread (not off-topic). You mentioned that one advantage of alliances is that you can enter a war without having started it. What are the advantages of entering a war without having started it? Thanks in advance also: If a powerful enemy has powerful allies, I suppose that honoring an alliance could be the only way to fight the powerful enemy without also having to fight his allies at the same time. When you honor an all

Are alliances only defensive, and not offensive? In my current game, there doesn't seem to be any negative diplomatic penalty for not honoring alliances; and I can usually create the same alliance again soon after I broke it by not honoring the call. What's the benefit of honoring an alliance? If a civ won't ally with you (even if you have "close" relations), what else can you do or is it impossible? What happens if someone declares war on me who has an alliance w

When I build my first military ships, I always send them to my star bases and set them either to guard or sentry. I do this because I'm not worried about my planets getting attacked so early in the game (I play with tech rate set to "very slow") as it takes more than just a small military ship to conquer them; it takes a land invasion. Is this what most players do with their early military ships? If not, how do you generally set your defense with your first combat ships? also: what ex

I have a few game questions: - does the planet quality number mean anything other than simply the number of tiles you have to build planetary improvements on? Does it mean anything else? - does getting passive espionge levels on other races help prevent the event where war breaks out because of an unintended diplomatic insult? When you get that event it says something like: "experts say that if we knew more about this race, this insult could have been prevented". Wha

How do I make the Anorian Ranger much weaker before I start a game? I've never modded anything in GCII in anyway before, so I need advice in a "simple" way. Thanks in advance
hum... don't know where you derived your numbers from but here's the details of what I know : https://www.galciv.wikia.com/wiki/Difficulty as you can see in the notes, there's a lot of unknown... but in any case, even if it's not seen in the numbers available, it should really be a lot harder if you read the values there
I got these numbers from the A.I. personality tab while setting up a game

In the latest version of ToA (2.02, I believe), what's the difference between "crippling" and "masocistic" difficulty levels? I can't see any difference when setting up a game; they both give the A.I. the following bonuses: - 120% tax income - +50% natural abilities - max CPU usage I want to play on one of these two difficulty levels, but I can't tell the difference between the two. What are the differences? Thanks in advance
Depends on how hard of a game you want: It controls how often the AI intentionally screws up.
I still don't understand what it does. I thought maybe it gave the A.I. more racial bonuses. Is this true?
Quoting Scoutdog, reply 17 Actually, this makes me think more of WW1... It would be sort of cool to see minors ally with majors a la Serbia and Russia. 'course, it would probably nerf the game strategy, but still... That would be interesting, to setup a scenario, Galactic War 1.. or something, with minors in the mix allied. Of course I guess it would be the same as an epic game. [/

I'm setting up a game and I'd like to get some advice for setting natural abilities (on the A.I. personalty tab). I don't know if I should set it anywhere from the middle (no bonuses) to it's maximum setting (+50%). I'm not exactly sure what it does. Thanks in advance
Hi! In DA I got negative diplo "points" for starting wars, for exterminating a race and for breaking treaties (econ and/or research one I gave to AI). But differrent races had different "sensitvity" for the first two events. You can avoid the first one with parking troop transport close to the race you want a war with, so they declare the war on you. The second penality you avoid by getting peace treat

I'm starting a new game and I want to get some advice on which victory conditions should be enabled and disabled. Just to give some backround, here are some settings I'll be using for my game: no tech trading or tech brokering, tech speed on very slow, mega-events set to frequent, huge galaxy with max amount of races, occasional stars with frequent planets. I don't know if these settings will influence which victory conditions you suggest enabling and disabling, but I thought

Is there a simple (or even not so simple) way that I can disable the Terrain Alliance's super ability and/or lesson their diplomatic modifiers? I like playing as them, but I'm finding it too easy (and advantagious) to avoid war. In my last game, I won a diplomatic victory without a single battle. I'm beginning a new game and I want to be "good" ethically; don't want to start aggressive wars, but rather I'd like to be attacked or war to protect my allies. If I can't d

Are there any penalties for not honoring alliances? In my current game: I've dishonored them, then went back and made the same alliances as before. So why should I ever honor an alliance if I don't really feel like going to war at that moment? Thanks in advance
Nothing at all stopping you. You can backstab allies, you can ambush freighters or even set up fleets right next to planets to 1 week exterminate another Good race w/o penalty to your ethics. I know that GCII:ToA isn't suppose to be Star Trek, but I at least partially see the Terrain Alliance as something like The United Federation of Planets. Can you im

When you're playing as a race with a "good" ethical alignment, is there anything to discourage you from aggressively warring? I'm playing as The Terrain Alliance and I can't imagine that I can go around declaring war like I was playing as The Drengin or The Korath without penalty. Thanks in advance

How do the diplomacy hits for aggressive warring work? Do they it only apply to minors, or do you get it for conquering the planet's of major races as well? Does the A.I. also get diplomacy hits for conquering planets? Thanks in advance
