i currently favor a 4-way split of buildings: 1 part factory, 1 part research, 1 part markets, 1 part everything else (farm, morale, influence). plus a starport. so a 9 tile planet gets a starport, 2 each of factory, lab, market, one farm, one morale. and a 13 tile planet gets a starport, three each of the basics, a farm, a morale, and an influence. for 5 tile, i've been doing starport, 1 each of the basics, plus a far, but i'm thinking about changing

Taking my best guess... I'd say sector boundaries would be determined by the sector boundaries. Dork. do you always start conversations with an attempt at an insult? use a simile or something w

i think those headless chicken frieghters are what happens when an AI builds more frieghters than it has available trade routes... it just keeps bouncing them from potential trade target to potential trade target, realizing at each one that it can't create a new route. when the empire gets a new trade tech, then they actually set a route when they arrive. what really slows things down for me is when somebody, usually the Torrians,

i haven't seen any minor race defections yet... it would happen all the time, wouldn't it? since they have so little influence compared to the empires within which they nestle?

it would be nice to, say, tell a planet to focus on both Social and Research at the same time. the sliders wouldn't even have to be fine grained... they could have a couple of preset tabs on them, and of course they would all have to add up to 100%. the way it is now, it's like there are only three tabs on each slider: one at 66%, when that part of the economy has focus. one at 33%, the default setting. one

this is why i make sure to invade their highest quality planets first. don't start at the fringes, and get a bunch of 7s and 8s! go for the throat, get their class 15+ worlds, and let them give the filler away to somebody else... with any luck, you can out-influence them with the high-population worlds you took, and get the filler anyway, in time.

in Moo3, there are System Seats that are the capitals of systems, and the Imperial Seat that is the capital of the entire empire. in the original design, there were also going to be an intermediate level of organization, Sector Seats , but they were eventually cut from the design. there hasn't been much public speculation of why they were cut, but my suspicion is that it wasn't clear how to specify cleanly, robustly, and non-stupidly, how sector boundari

agreed... i'd like to be able to tell the AI players: "we know what you are doing with all of those ships next to our border. i bet you learned that from watching human players, didn't you? it's lucky for you that i've got three beers in me, and need to go find more pretzels, or i might do something about it!"

also, at some other zoom levels (iirc), near the edge of the map, the influence of the sector on the edge of the map isn'e displayed. in any case, zooming out once and then back in again not only takes care of some of the influence display problems, but also recenters the minimap... it's a little irksome that the minimap doesn't recenter when the main map does. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Mad.gif" border

yeah, i know, i could just take them over, but i like having a bunch of lil'uns under my protective umbrella... for role-playing purposes. and it irks me that the description in their report tells me i need to do something that can't be done.

in the reports on minor races, it always says that "we don't have more information about these mysterious beings. do some spying, numbskull!" or something like that. i don't have the game open in front of me. but i never could find a way to spend on espionage against minors like i can against the majors. am i missing something?

But remember it was the Thalan that attacked me... and I got flagged as the aggressor. clearly, you provoked the Thalan, with your... uhm... aggressive posturing. yeah. anyway, would this be the first time that nations used the excuse of "agression" by a non-threatening opponent

14 Replies 8,365 Views

this brings up a good AI point: Opponent Modelling we know that the AI have routines to detect threats from the other players, but i wonder if they ever turn the table and say, "if you were me, and were doing this, and i were you, would i perceive this as a threat?" this is, of course based on the (flawed) premise that the other player thinks the way you do... but it's better than no modellng at all! so i wonder,

Honestly, I'd bet you can blame this on nVidia. Their latest drivers dropped support for the older GO cards. only for the really super-ancient ones. the first poster has a 6200. that's still supported... it's only one generation down from the current one, even if it is the low-end of that genera

The newest nvidia are 2005? Don't be foolish. They're freaking nvidia, they WILL have newer drivers. yeah, but for laptops NV leaves driver distributions up to the OEMs, so there are only officially supported update drivers for laptops when Toshiba, HP, or whoever decides to distribute one for their hardwa

6200? so last generation's low end! time to upgrade! that's what GC2 is telling you. edit: 6200's are running like $60 right now, and that's the 256MB version, not the LE TC ones that only have 128MB and use system memory to boost that... which are PCIE anyway, so probably not your thing. here: <a href="http://www.newegg.com/Pr

the list looks fantastic! going to download now... one thing i don't see, though, is "Start of a War is now announced, in addition to the End of a War." any chance of that getting in before the final 1.1?

i've seen this too. i get it sometimes when upgrading a design, but not every time. seems random. harmless, too... just weird.
