2 Games in a row now, I'm playing the Yor and the Terrans are not using weapons on thier ships. The first game, they were next to me. So I jumped into attack mode and slaughtered them. Even after dozens of turns, they never bothered to put a weapon on a ship. They had defense, but nothing to attack. At first I thought it was some clever trick to have the ships, and then upgrade them. But they never did anything. Worse, they kept building them as I
I think the only problem(with planetary management) is the "All X strategies"
Um, no nothing that complicated. Lets see : (these go for basically all the versions) 1) Building 2 and 3 moral buildings for no good reason. (no farm) 2) Building power plants 1st and then building only 1-2 factories or none at all. 3) Building research labs without really focusing the planet on research (same as 2) 4) Not re-ordering th

Real nice. Is that you brad, nice pen-name? If it is, you really need to get some coders to do the AI since you obviously don't take the time anymore. My PC has 2 gigs, and I'm running vista. From all that i've read, it's not that anyway. It's that windows won't allow a process to use more than a particular limit. (address limitation) I played another game with less going on, without problems. Now I'm playing an immense, but not heavill

The game has gotten better from whence you stopped. However, in a lot of ways it is still lacking. There are still major balancing problems, the AI still is bad at planetary management, the AI still can't design good ships, and the AI still doesn't defend or attack worth a dam. (Why do people say the AI is good at all?, Well because with enough bonuses, and if you don't know what you're doing, the AI will overwhelm you) And I'm talking DL, DA and TOA.

The blanket 20k rule is a horrible left over from gc1. In GC1 having 20k was a feat in and of itself, in GC2 it is quite easy especially on the larger maps. As everyone has said, it should scale, and it should probably be progressive. The biggest issue I have with it is that it limits the game play. Lets see, because of the 20k rule: 1) building up money to upgrade all, is not a good idea, hence limiting the entire upgrade mechanic. 2)&nb

Out of frustation with DA's memory leak, and a discount via the survey I finally bought TOA. I played the beta for a few hours before I could play no further because of outright crashes. Ok, it's a beta. I sent in the data, and downloaded the previous version. My first game with that was good. I played a larger map, but sparsely populated. Now my second game I decided to play gigantic, and heavily loaded. (common/abun/abun scatter AFAIR) &nbs

Interesting. I still say the game would be better if you started with nothing, and you had to research to build anything. (constructors, scouts, and colony ships...) That would make those first 20 turns really key, and allow you to size up your situation and persue the best path. To me, this is another sign that mines are overly weak.

I was wondering what the point of ascencion victory really was. If it is 2.5x, same as military, then it makes sense. Basically it saves you from the tedium of conquering them or waiting for surrender, and gives you the full points. Personally I'd always wanted a modified diplo win that was like this, where they basically surrendered early. The reality is, once you own 90% of the resources on the map, the AIs can't win, and should just kneel down. &nb

42 inch Toshiba LCD tv at 1360x768. I hooked it up in my living room, and needless to say I have not ever gone back to using my 19" LCD. I really should sell it... It makes me wonder if in 5 yrs you'll even buy a "computer" monitor.

Make sure the fan on your graphics card is really running. I had the same thing, and I found I could run with my case open with an external fan. (i've since got a better card...)

Is there any hope of fixing DA's invasion memory leak? At least give us an option to turn off the invasion graphic which seems to be the culprit. For me it's like a clock, 20 invasions and the game stalls, around 30 I get the white box for an explosion and out of memory. Play the Korath, spore all day, no problem. Stop invading, no problem.

Holy crap. I've been wanting this since about 2 hours into playing DL a few years ago. I may have to break down and get TA. Does this mean the AI will use it, and actually do a decent job at planetary development? Also, are you going to add any hooks to control the starport via this governor? So for example you could tell all your econ/farm planets to build transports, all your research to build constructors? I'd much rather the old govenor got removed

It's always bugged me that more often than not, a lot of the AI's planets are idle. (and all the while I'm slamming them with transports) I've always thought this was a bug, in that most human players always have planets building something. My economy/research planets for example are usually building constructors or transports. Once I get too many, then I just make my top of the line medium to keep them busy. Anyway, now I'm wondering if leaving these planets

Interesting. But if that's what really went on, why the hell did they keep adding new features? It makes no sense. It's like they thought they needed a million gizmos to sell this game, when all they really needed to do was clean it up. I'm still waiting for the AI to develop it's planets and build decent ships for christ's sake...

I am glad others have noted the irony of this:
Gamers shall have the right to demand that games be released in a finished state.
In my mind none of the GC2 games are finished. They all crash, they all have plenty of small stupid bugs, and overall they all lack polish. If Brad actually believed number 2, he would have put resources into cleaning these games up before releasing them. (or at least really play tested them to realize he

ROFL. Bug or deliberate code. Gee isn't that what requirements are for? A simple one for this game is that the AIs should at least consider colonizing other planets. I suppose if you always play tiny maps, then skipping colonizing makes sense. So I guess the ultimate fix for this would be to just have small maps; since that's what Brad codes and tests for.

The real point is the growth path of the GPU is much higher than the CPU. There simply are not enough applications forcing you to need faster and faster CPUs, where as on the graphics end there is still plenty of need. What's missing from this email however, is that CPUs now need to start getting much more parellel in nature. The limiting factor there has been software design and complexity. To me that's the path that needs to happen for the CPU folks, make it easier to do mu

Yup. I'd love to know the algorithm behind it, because it seems pretty random. Most of the time it will waste moves bouncing around rather than just wiping out the enemies that are closest. I think it's good they did it the way they did, since you rarely SHOULD destroy mines or miners since you're going to be taking them over anyway. (then you'd have to rebuild them) The one thing that always bugged me, is that transports are not a priority. However, anothe

Maybe some real alpha testing should be done. Guess I'll continue to wait to buy TA. I don't know why I keep hoping for better out of SD. It's a shame. Such an amazing game ruined by lack of discpline. Hire a few real testers for Christ's sake. Actually test your changes before throwing them out to your paying customers. OR at least immeadiately acknowledge a post like this.
