It's not just MS. In fact MS is the least of the problem. 3rd party developers that write crap and expect us to buy it and wonder why MS always wins... it's because when I install Office as an administrator and then login as a user it just works. Meanwhile, Word Perfect randomly doesn't. And the list goes on and on. The more nitch the product, the more likely it is to be crap that doesn't work in a network even though it's designed for a network.

HERE HERE ON THE ARTICLE! Now if adults would take the same approach our society would be so much better for it. Reward people for fighting back against muggers, and standing up to people trying to rob their stores. Help them if you're there, beat the asses doing this sort of thing into a hospital bed, then have charges laid against them and put them in jail. Bullies, no matter the age, still need to be deleted.
Deference: You're first post... it doesn't say anything at all, and then you go and make an assertion about the patriot act and the intel reform act. While I agree with you on both acts because of other reasons, you don't get to say nothing to back up your oppionion and then make that statement. People that do that are why we still have that bill and why it was passed in the first place. Privacy is not a principle, it is a logical falacy. Just becau
It's arrogence of the highest order. It's believing your right just because htat's the way you've always done it. If you have proof, great, you're not arrogent no matter how much you push it, but if you just believe something because you've always done it that way, then you're not only arrogent, you're a fool. And to push it at people and try and change others because you've always done it that way, and have no proof that you're right? Well that's ano
Oh 11 has to be: 11. If your software produces HTML that SUCKS and looks like crap and leaves tags all over the place that clutter stuff up for no other reason than to be difficult, then you have produced crapware. Microsoft Word, this means you.
How to Spot Crapware <o:p
The problem isn't the software. It is the neurotic, socially retarded dinks on either side who feel threatened because the world isn't exactly the way they think it should be. *applauds BakerStreet's wisdom* Why would you applaud his wisdom when he didn't actually say anything, or even prove his point? There were no examples, no proof, nothing to backup his empty claims. That isn't wisdom, that's spouting off and expecting peop
Oh, and before you point out Linux to me. Forget it. First most of the big development in Linux now-a-days is happening in companies like IBM that make pot loads from it and release not so open source code after they're done anyhow, and the rest is done by a hard core group of people that haven't yet gotten fed up. Most of the time because they work for MS or some other company during the day and it's more of a pet project to stick it to "the man" than
Um... hate to point it out to you, but this is called Socialism that you're outlining in the guise of software. You're also outlining the entire concept of leaching off the abled. Eventually the abled say "xxxx it" and become the disabled because it's not worth it to work hard and have everyone else take it from you for "the greater good". Yes, socialism is a failure, just like freeware. Just ask the people developing Firefox right now...
The main thing men don't give women is the simple thing called respect. Respect is earned. Both through your actions and your choice of friends. Perhaps the problem isn't that these "men" are making these comments it's that you're friends with these types of boys. If you're looking for something greater than an animal that wants to reproduce, you have to surround yourself with people that are greater than animals. To do so, you have t
When I go somewhere for a business trip or just a trip in general I try and understand what makes that place unique. What makes it special. I will even adopt whatever the uniqueness is as much as possible when I’m there. I don’t mean that I change myself, or affect airs, but I do try and accommodate the people there. It helps me to learn. Both learn what makes the
1 cm optical accuity is pretty damn good. The problem with Osama is that he knows when they're overhead and always seeks cover so that he isn't caught. (see Patriot Games for more detail on this... it's real, just better now, and yes, it is that clear of images if they're processed)
Thanks Gord! And as you say, the only valid basis for arguing that something is wrong, is "does it harm another who has not given you permission to harm them?" If the answer is no, then you're doing nothing wrong, if the answer is yes, then put 'em in the slammer!
TheFazz. The Satellites take pictures of every square mm of the earth every single day. If it's cloudy, they use infrared, if it's sunny they use visible spectrum. The americans even use Terahertz imaging now just like the Isrealis do from hummers in the streets looking for terrorists. The key here is what I talked about. If someone has the will, they can take that data and find out all about you. Are you willing to stake your life on peopl
Yes, that’s right. You have no privacy. It’s an illusion. It’s based on a logical fallacy. Get over it. Privacy is a desire of human beings to hide that which they are ashamed or embarrassed of. While this desire may be understandable, it in no way has anything to do with reality. In the past, the illusion of privacy was easy to keep up, much like the belief in G
So the other day I had a conversation with someone about same-sex marriage. It's the topic of the day in Canada because the legislation is in debate in the house right now. This person has a comment that is the same as most others with variations on the same theme: The bible says it's wrong. Two men or women marrying is against the bible! We shouldn't ha
1. Ayn Rand - Greatest philosopher of all time. 2. Terry Goodkind - One of the most important fiction writers of the last 300 years. 3. Ronald Reagan - The greatest president the United States has ever known. 4. Jennifer Garner - An Actress of fantastic beauty of body and mind that shines no matter what she does, who domniates the screen, who lives life fantastically from what I can tell living in a world that discourages this type of per
The word love is one of the most bastardized words out there. It’s in fact, bastardized more than ‘hero’ which is saying something. Just like hero, Love is a very important and not to be spoken lightly term. In fact, I dare say that unless you’re using the most basic of definitions (sex, or chemical response) that most people have NEVER (even those that are married)
Capitalism is not only a force for good because it provides incentive. It also is a force for good because to date, it is the only way that civilized human beings can trade value for value. Without capitalism society degrades to those that have force of arms taking from those that do not, or mobs and gangs pillaging the few or individuals. Consider that all lasting relationships are built on capitalism. Even Love (yes it's Feb 14th) is based on fair
I'll post my earth shattering response tommorow - In the meantime I stick ny a comment I made a long time ago: WC and JU should NOT be linked. --- Again, wanting something for nothing. WC and JU are linked because this is as much an advertising site for StarDock as it is a service to you. Brad provides a service to you and in exchange drives traffic to SD and WC. In this way he makes money, and thus pays for the thing that
" Communism And Free Shouldn’t Be Used In The Same Sentence." why not? Communisim is taking from the wealthy to give to those that are not. Those that are not wealthy didn't do anything to earn that money other than be pathetic. Thus the poor get something for nothing. Last time I checked the definition of Free = Getting something for nothing. "Again, Linking Communism With Theft. Erm OK. Plus Calling It Social
Free software is a failure for the same reason that communism is. (Firefox is having this problem right now) Free requires people to donate their time. Free requires that others give away their abilities so that others can profit from it. The problem is, that in the real world, free is second to people making a living so that they can eat. I call this the lottery effect. (Or the Oprah car giveaway effect, but it's much less catchy...) People live f
Um... that's called a Libertarian... Freedom is your main decision point on all of these items not conservative or liberal bias. Hence you (and a whole lot of people that vote Republican because they think there is no other choice) should be voting Libertarian.
I admit it, I'm hooked on House. It's fantastic! Dr. House is like me except a doctor and with a limp :) So tonight's episode had House in a battle against a slick talking doctor who had made a diagnosis (that was wrong) and one of House's staff was buddies with this guy. Well House KNEW it was wrong, and fought for his opinion. The guy on his staff (Omar
You cannot expect someone to go through a 2 hour bus ride to go 30 miles just to have a minimum wage job. Why? The second problem is that if you get there you are discriminated agasint becsue of your speech and your race, so your chances of getting the job are even lower. Plus, you lack the basic education needed to get even the lowest end job. And that was the choice of the person. If you put any effort into it at all, as a
