How do you play "good"?

I've been trying my past few games to play a "good" empire, but I've failing miserably. How do you do it? Every single one of the events ends up screwing my empire massively - for example, that one with the critters in the water causes an empire wide -16% morale!

The only way I've found at all successfully to do it is to play evil at the start, and then work towards good later.

Generally I have been playing neutral then picking a good option when its a less harmful time. Slowly over time I get to being good. The I Still pick neutril options when they come at a bad time and have yet to slip from good unless I go with evil options.

I have been finding that it is easier to become a "good" empire on the larger galaxies than on the smaller ones. I am currently playing a "large" galaxy and I am thinking that this level may be just at the margin of where you can really control your morality. I try to choose the "good guy" options except for the "earthworms" (I always take the biggest increase in planet class) or for a morale loss event when the morale loss would impact the morale of the newly colonized planet too severely.

What are the advantages of becoming a "good" empire anyways?

I think there should be some major long term bonuses if you become a "good" empire. Every immediate choice you have to make that seems to be beneficial for your empire moves you toward the "evil" empire status. I think there should be a big payoff for making those "hard" choices that actually harm your empire but are "morally" correct.

Maybe there already are, but it is soooo easy to take the evil route. Why go the hard way????

Has anyone from SD said that all of the good/evil stuff has been implemented yet (Build 3D)? I thought I saw something that said SOME of it was in, but I am not sure of what the wording was (whether it was specific enough to say it was ALL in).

'Maybe there already are, but it is soooo easy to take the evil route.'

There are a few, but not as many as there are for evil. The ones I know of are the techs Benevolance and Hypertrade, which get you a fifth and sixth non-UP Issue trade route (and if planned out, can limit neutral and evil races to 9 routes, because the issue doesn't come up after you get 10 routes). Two of the good techs also have social improvements.

The evil route brings immediate benefits, but few long-term gains. Only one evil tech gets a trade route, which is where the potential imbalance mentioned above comes into play, and only one has an improvement, AFAIK.

Not that I've seen. The last mention either way I recall was the 'some' comment back in beta 2B.

You may be right. I checked the definition of hyper warp in the tech file and it has the statement "Alignment_Category 70" in it.

It is. The fifth trade route for evil civs comes from one of the Xeno techs.
