Is it possible to upgrade ships?

Just checking but is there a way to upgrade CURRENT designs? now that I can play quite a few turns (yay!) without a crash or anything horrible happening Ive yet to find a way to upgrade a ship.

Secondly: Could we -please- get the ability to modify core ships?

Click on a ship, press upgrade button. Or go to shipyard screen, choose a design, select upgrade.

Why would you want to do a such thing? Personnaly, I would like to be able to duplicate ship design, since I want to have family of current design based on the same look.

Because even your core ships will eventually become obselete in terms of weapons, engines, etc.; and it would be nice to upgrade them if you so desired. (Not that that's a deal-breaker for me, but I certainly wouldn't complain if it such a feature was included.)

Well, you can always upgrade ships individually.

No matter what I try, I can't upgrade my flagship to have weapons or better engines. After a certain point I always have to just build a new one with better stuff and destroy the original ship.
