You are Cordially Invited to Tune In to Watch the first GalCiv Succession Game

In a succession game, members of a team take turns at the helm of a single player game, playing a specified number of turns before passing the game to the next player. Players from Realms Beyond have gathered at CivFanatics, where we've been playing Civ3 succession games for years now, to try our hand at a GalCiv SG.

We invite you to come and have a look. :D

The AAR's from each player's turn are highly detailed, accompanied by screenshots, and fun to read. Follow along, and you may even find yourself wishing you could join the action! :HOT:

Players tuning in the RB Empire thread here in the Stardock forum have known about the SG for a while now, but I thought I would give notice to the majority of you who don't keep tabs on RB activities. :)

Seasons Greetings from your friends at Realms Beyond.

The second round of action in the SG is wrapping up, and our fortunes are turning positive as we have managed to build a few Trade Goods. Could be conflict ahead, though, as one of our neighbors is growing restless. :)

Tune in and have a look. :D

This is very interesting. Real Cool.

Anyone 'not' following this game... Well, you should be IMHO. Excellent AAR. :HOT:

The SG marches on. TBC, and the whole team for that matter, seems headed for what looks to be a resounding victory. Knock on wood. With the Yor now gone, our trade route with them transfers automatically to the new ownership, guaranteeing us a second route with whomever goes on the rise (Altarians in this case). See? It's not automatically unwise to send trade to weak or even dying civs. Depends on the big picture.

Oh look, I'm up again. :D

That link is a great ad for GalCiv!

Thanks for this link. The thread is awesome! I have read through it twice and learned many finer points and tips/tricks. I started a game on challenging last night and used the colony ship method you started the SG with. Great move it turned out to be!

I look forward to reading the rest of the posts as the game plays through. The thread would be an excellent resource for those new to the game and even those, like myself, that have a few games but want to get better.

Thanks again for a great read!! :)

I had moved away from using the PQ bonus, I think I am going to switch back

In my solo games, I try to wean myself off the PQ bonus now and then, not to use it in more than half my games. It's not as godly as the diplo picks, but it's definitely in the "too strong to resist" category.

The action is winding down in the first succession game, yet there are still reasons to tune in. Have you met SiBCaT yet? If not, this is one kitty who could change the way you play the game. Don't miss out! :D

SiBCat (or its canine equivalent :p ) has been in use here for the last five of my maso games. Excellent documentation of the concept, as usual.

One thing to note--I think there is some scaling of the tech costs with map size. I couldn't find any documentation (haven't exactly looked to hard, either), but I am sure that everything below large has a tech cost lower than what JavaScout's Guide has shown. I am not sure about whether map sizes above large scale up, however. Has anyone else noticed this?

This is very good! I have enjoyed reading through the game and have learned a great deal. SiBCat ought to be very helpful in my next game.

Thanks to all who have posted so eloquently on that thread. The detailed explanations are wonderful and the splash of humor here and there makes for a fun read. I look forward to the next one.

I guess you deserve some kind of promotion ;)

Nevertheless I asked CariElf in the bug report thread to have a look at it. I would really prefere to have a fix instead of using SiBCaT :SURPRISED:

Yes, but not with habitability.

It's pretty simple, really. All you have to do is check any of the starting techs. I always research Communication Theory first, so that's the one I used. Here's the costs to research Comm Theory per map size:

Tiny - 20
Small - 25
Medium - 30
Large - 40
Huge - 50
Gigantic - 50

Note the oddity of no increase from huge to gigantic.

I wouldn't mind retiring SiBCaT, but can they fix it without bogging down slower machines? We'll have to wait and see how Stardock responds.

One of the things that I've been working on lately is getting the various screens to update correctly, but the painting/refresh code is probably the most inefficient and messiest code that we have, so it's taking me time.

Acoording to her statement the result would not slow down the game. I really hope that she will succeed i.e. she finds enough time.

Well, folx, the game is now complete. Use the link at the top of the page to see the outcome. Stay tuned, RB will likely be sponsoring more SGs in the near future.

LOL Sirian--looks like you beat me to the punch. I was planning on opening up the thread tonight if no one else got to it--looks like someone has ;).
