Bug report for 1.10.072

If I click on the round "i" button to get info on my "USS Hero" survey ship, the game crashes. Saved game available if you want it.

This bug has existed since near 1.0. I create a stacked group. Click on another single ship not on the same square. Set it for auto-pilot. The stacked group takes the auto-pilot orders.

My recollection is that this happens sometimes after moving a stacked group and then selecting a standalone ship and try to set it for auto-pilot.

Just played a Huge/Normal game. When I submitted to the metaverse, the galaxy size didn't get posted properly - at least it doesn't display on my player stats. Noticed this on Ray's last game also.

Why has the "Conquest Victory" option been removed from the list?

Sorry found it - disabling all the other options defaults to it ....

Turns out the bug applies any any attempt to view the orders screen of a survey ship. I went to a scout and scrolled across till I got to a survey ship and crash.
So when is this fix coming?

Mike, update to 1.10A.073 on Stardock Central.

RubberDucky666, make sure you have the latest version of GalCiv... version 1.10A. Version 1.10 had some CTDs when you clicked on the ships or the 'I' in the little ship info screen.

Anthony Gleen, are you playing with any Library mods? Most of the vote crashing CTD (Crash To Desktop) bugs are caused by Library Council mods from the Library that weren't "quite right". Remember, the Library of mods are player creations, and not 100,000,000,000% tested and certified by Star Dock (except for the items that are Star Dock certified).

DStackle, that problem was reported repeatily in the past on this forum. Have you done a search on the forum? I don't recall how the people experiencing that problem fixed it, other then the fact they mentioned it. Sorry. I'll try to do some searching and see if I can turn up anything. If I do, I'll post it hear.

Yes, I often experience the disappearing ships/terror stars as well. It's quite irritating when you suddenly get attacked by invisible enemy avatars. Not only ships, but planet graphics begin disappearing after a while too. I usually have to reboot after that to get things to appear again.

Xerxes, can you reproduce this consisently? If so, can you please install SmartException from the free stuff tab in Stardock central, and send the report it generates (Galciv.exe.cra) to me with your debug.err file from the galciv folder to [email protected]? Thanks.

Lotherius, please send the save game to me.  I'll need both the .sav file and the corresponding folder. So if it's an autosave, it'll be AutoSave.sav and the Autosave folder.

The NewfyScotian: can you please send the save game to me?

You can't see the progress of the AI getting the tech victory by design.  You don't get reports on how close they are to winning by cultural victory or military victory either.

Matthew Downie: send the game to me and I'll look at it.

Anthony, please install smart exception from the free stuff tab, and send the report it generates (Galciv.exe.cra) to me with your debug.err file from the galciv folder to [email protected]? Thanks.

You can often get the invisible ships to show up again by shutting down Gal Civ and starting it back up again.

Annoying Bug in 1.10 (latest download)

Once a system goes into "rebellious mode" (skull and xbones on star map), that system will never again go back to standard, happy mode.

I just finished a large universe where this happened. Earlier in the game, a few systems of mine went into rebellious mode (planted new colonies in the middle of enemy sectors - go figure). I was able to keep a couple of them from defecting but they never went back to being happy again. Even later in the game when the enemy colonies were so impressed by me that they defected, my colonies were still upset with me.

This isn't a bug. It's warning, if it happens a second time by the same race the world will rebel. The skull remains as a warning.

1.10A.073

Started Stardock Central. It downloaded 3 items, and then rebooted my machine. This freaked me out, so I ran a virus scan on laptop, all clear.

Started up GalCiv, and it CTD's immediately now. Great update! Oopsie! Looks like it CTDs at the video player load up, or when the video player loads up the Strategy First animation.

Note, I had no problems with game start up PRIOR to the StarDock update. StarDock Central still seems to work. Would appreciate info on how to FIX this latest problem.

Thanks for the game and support! Looking forward to a fast fix. ;)

(Off to see what else I can find out...)

Stardock Central reports:
Version 1.10d.204
Build: 25

* Note *
Swapped down from 32 Bit color mode (in which it worked great in that mode before the latest StarDock Central update) to 16 bit color mode. No joy in mudville. Still CTD.

See whether this helps, Star Pilot.

If you're getting crashes with bink videos, it's one of two things:

1) something like Quicktime took over your bink associations. go to www.radgametools.com and download the bink toolset. Installing it should re-claim your associations.

2) you're having some kind of audio conflict. WinDVD and winamp3 are known to have bad codecs. What media players do you have other than Windows Media Player?

Updating sound and video drivers can sometimes help, too.
End of quote

Alternatively, are you already renaming these introduction bik movies? If not, you can rename intro.bik and sf_intro.bik in the Galciv/movies directory.

Thank you Ray for the info! I had presumed it was something to do with the video player (due to the reboot), but looking at the Debug.err file, I don't know.

Let's see the options:
1) I don't have Quicktime on this machine. Cannot stand QT, as it has fried out quite a few installations on previous machines. But I'll hit the RadGameTools site to make sure everything is cool.

2) I don't have WinAmp on this system. I do have WinDVD, but everything was ok BEFORE the SDC auto-update. I do have DivX installed as well, but as I said, everything worked before. Very puzzling to me.

Well, off to RadGameTools, and then retry. THEN make sure the Sound and Video drivers are all up to date and retry... and if that don't work... I'll try renaming the movies. ;) Thanks for the plan of attack. We might be totally off base, but all I was going to do was relax and play some GalCiv tonight. :)

Thanks tons!

No joy in Mudville.

Did #1, #2, and your suggestion...

Also had tried GalCivW.exe... it has identical problem to GalCiv.exe.

Blink tools play intros fine. Also play the main setup menu screen parts (all 3) fine.

When both intro and sf_intro are renamed, the game doesn't do it's flicker. Apparently, each flicker is it trying to play the movies, one right after the other, and then CTD. With both renamed so they are unfindable, it just CTDs.

Whoopsie.

Well, any other suggestions? I don't know what else I can try at this time... Cannot recall reading of this sort of thing happening in the past, so I am unsure what else to do... other then wait for the Star Dockians to come by and use their Omniscience to advise me how to fix this. ;)

My only other suggestion is a reinstall. I've not heard of SDC screwing up the game but the 3 files that you said SDC donwloaded could have done that.

I was thinking that. Darn, where's that "How to deinstall and reinstall your GalCiv as painlessly as possible" thread? :D

Thanks for all the help! It was worth taking the shot.

There's a bug in the stats screen that tells me that I'm #1 - ALWAYS! It doesn't matter where I actually rank in anything. It's as if my cabinet is trying to shield me from the awful truth... ;)

It's only telling you your number one out of all the races you have made contact with, if this is at say the beginning of the game and you haven't met anyone then yes they will say you are number one because they have nothing to compare you to.

I just tried deinstalling and then reinstalling ALL of GalCiv. Still no joy in mudville. Doesn't play sf_intro.bik, then doesn't play intro.bik, and then just sends me back to desktop, with the GalCiv minimized. Whenever I try to swap back into that, it flips out, dumps me back to desktop, and stays minimized.

Now I'm bummed. All drivers up to date. Blink is fine and can play the intro, sf_intro, and menus. I will check back later and hope for the best.
