New version of DX will not allow me to run widgets. Can anyone help?

Stardock just informed me that there was an update for DesktopX, so I went ahead and let it update (now running 2.40b[a].002). I restarted my computer and now no widgets will load. I get the "DXWidget.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" message. Anyone?

Duplicate Post, but am not getting any response. Sorry.

no DX for me, I guess. Is it advisable to uninstall and reinstall?

Is it any widget or certain ones. I have had poor to no success with weather widgets, but CPU and colour picker ones seem to work. I am not getting the same error, and have updated DX yet again today, so I am leaning toward the individual app itself. Can you try some generic, basic widgets, clocks, and the aforementioned CPU and colour pickers, and maybe we can narrow the problem a little?

Just some thoughts.

The only one that works is the new media player that came with the update. Color Picker, Picture viewer, GT3 clock, Orbital, Moonphase, ...there are about 10 or 11 of them that don't work. All was fine until I let it update.

If misery likes company, you have a friend here, Sleeping Dragon. Just want you to know that you're not alone. Unlike you though, I only downloaded DX for the first time yesterday. However, I spent all of yesterday and into the evening trying to download widgets and make them work and they won't. Mail Checkers (configured properly) won't respond, weather widgets won't retain their settings, etc. McAfee pops up with 'suspicious scripting' errors. I can't know if it's because I'm so knew to DX that I'm not doing everything correctly or if it's DX itself. One thing works: I'm able to make a fish swim around my desktop! It's more aggravation than a pleasure, at this point, and I'm tempted to uninstall and forget about it. I hope you receive answers for the problems you're having and perhaps I might be able to learn something too.

Thanks, Rauhn. I had to delete the widgets that I wanted to run on startup and change the setting of DX to not start automatically also. I am not running it at all now. I'll bet you want to strangle that fish!!

I use GT3 widgets(Recyclebin,Cpu monitor, colorpicker and weather),only weather worked with new desktopX version!Somehow I got to make own widgets from the other and now that widgets works fine(original widgets doesn`t work)!!!!!!!!So,if you can export original to your own widgets ,maybe then those widgets work!

I wish I could help but unfortunately I too am finding the latest builds of dx to be extremely problematic - so much so that I have sadly had to stop any widget development. With the wealth of new features that the dx team are adding I guess it's not really a surprise that there are teething troubles, but every new build seems to fix something, add something and break something.

Hi Tiggs! I got them to work with next way: First I import that widgets to objects, then export back to widgets, surprise surprise that worked as they should!! So,all works again:widget>object>widget!!!
