The v4.2 update for Galactic Civilizations IV is available now on Steam, Epic, and galciv4.com. The big change is a round of multiplayer fixes that address several desyncs, an end-of-turn crash, and automated colonies paying for capital and terraforming improvements once per player. On the engine side, we've fixed two common crashes, one with screens that contain sliders and one with Tech Navigator tech cards. On the game side, there is a pass of UI fixes for research, quick saving, and the mini map, along with gameplay and localization fixes.
Changelog
Engine
-
Fixed a common crash that could happen while opening and closing screens that contain sliders.
-
Fixed a common crash with Tech Navigator tech cards
Multiplayer
-
Fixed a desync where a fleet's mission, such as an anomaly survey, could be completed once for each player in the game.
-
Fixed a desync when several fleets merged on the same tile.
-
Fixed a desync caused by enemy-in-territory map markers. Markers now follow the intruding fleet and appear only for the player whose territory it entered.
-
Fixed a desync caused by one player viewing certain screens and tooltips, such as government, production, policy, sponsor and planet screens.
-
Fixed a crash at end of turn when colony improvement automation was on, most often seen by multiplayer clients.
-
Fixed automated colonies in multiplayer queuing and paying for capital and terraforming improvements once per player instead of once.
Gameplay
-
Buildings chosen from a homeworld event can now be rebuilt after being destroyed for every faction, not just the Terrans.
-
The "A Way to Communicate" quest now completes if you research Universal Translator while waiting, instead of stalling.
-
Fixed fleets being unable to dock at an empty shipyard ("Too Many Ships Docked") after another fleet's order to that shipyard was cancelled or redirected.
-
Starbases now always use their owner's constructor designs, including deleted default designs, instead of borrowing another player's design.
-
Destroying an improvement now refunds credits and updates energy use correctly.
-
New Terrans can now build the second housing upgrade after researching Extreme Colonization. Exotic World Colonization still works too.
-
Citizen Intelligence, Social, Diligence, Resolve and Expectations no longer drop below 1. Races with attribute penalties, such as the Mimot, no longer get citizens with 0 in these stats.
-
Surveying several anomalies, capsules, artifacts, graveyards or precursor sites in the same month no longer always gives the same result.
-
Weapon range, attack and cooldown bonuses from techs, components, and Cruiser and Destroyer modules now also apply to Enhanced kinetic, beam and missile weapons. The Intimidator commander's attack penalty now also hits enemy Enhanced weapons.
-
The Pirate Threat quest now lists its actual reward of 250 Credits.
Maps
-
Custom maps whose name, author or file name contains square brackets no longer break the custom map list. The brackets now show as parentheses.
Galaxy Forge / Map Editor
-
The title screen's Map Editor button now shows a "Loading Map Editor..." screen and no longer opens a second copy of Galaxy Forge when clicked again or when Galaxy Forge is already running.
Localization
-
Fixed Chinese text cutting off partway through in some places, such as the Situation Report intros for Tales of the Arnor, Radioactive and Everything for Sale.
-
The Chinese Tales of the Arnor campaign description now shows its full text.
-
Added translations for the new Prestige victory text, the Unharvested Gigamass label and tooltip, and the Map Editor loading message.
-
The Pirate Threat quest reward now reads 250 Credits in all languages.
UI
-
The Research screen now always closes when you press Done during end of turn. Your pick is applied as soon as the turn allows.
-
Fixed being charged for a new research pick without the confirmation prompt when changing research during end of turn.
-
The Research Complete popup now appears at the start of the new turn instead of during turn processing.
-
Pressing Ctrl+S during end of turn or fleet movement now quicksaves as soon as it is safe instead of being ignored.
-
The Manage button no longer appears on minor faction or other players' worlds, where it did nothing.
-
The Prestige victory end screen now has its own text instead of repeating the Turn Limit victory text.
-
The planet tooltip for dead worlds now labels the Gigamass still in the planet as "Unharvested Gigamass", with a tooltip explaining that it must be extracted by a Harvester Ship.
-
Minimap: removed ghost circles left around cluster edges while zooming.
-
Minimap: with Zoom to Cursor on, mouse-wheel zoom keeps the point under the cursor in place.
-
Minimap: diamond, plus and star markers shrink as you zoom out so they no longer cover the map.
Federations & Empires Expansion
Text / Localization
-
The fix for Chinese text cutting off also covers Federations & Empires text, such as Senate bills and Technocracy tooltips.
UI
-
Oligarchy Council seat tooltips now list only the one required tech, from your own tech tree.
