Objectdock 1.0 eats up 100% of my CPU on a Win2k SP4 PC when I start apps

Hi,

I wonder if this is a known bug, or maybe a confiuration issue.
Time to time if I start an application from the start menu or from windows explorer or any other application, ObjectDock starts to consume 100% of my CPU. Only thing I can do is to end the OD process from the task manager.

The PC is a HP/compaq NC 8000, running win2k SP4, 1,5 GHz Mobile Pentium with 512 MB RAM.

Object Dock version is 1.0 (and some more zeros) which I cant upgrade from stardock central, because when I click update, it stops at 60%, with the logfile saying that the size of LaST (Cobalt) Lock & Gear.png
is incorrect.

After starting ObjectDock again, things go fine for a while.

Could you help me?
cheers
Andras

Like by going into games, or just programs in general? ObjectDock has some issues with advanced 3d games.

Any program in general. I don't even have games on that PC at all.

interesting, that it would skitz out with other programs launched from elsewhere. i hope someone can help you out, ethsza.. i'm clueless.

Re-install SDC http://storage.stardock.com/files/sdcentral_current.exe let it auto update and then install newest verion of Object Dock (1.00.008).

BTW: re-install SDC right over the one you have, but Delete the contents of C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\Temp first (only the contents, not the Temp folder)

Yrag, didn't work. I reinstalled SDC, cleared its temp, but the OD update fails exactly as I wrote in my very first post.

Do you have any docklets installed in OD? I have had things simailar happen to me, but when I get rid of the docklets, everything works fine.

i too have been having this problem with cpu utilization. I have posted a couple of times but haven't gotten much help. I am running windows 2k sp4 dell 2.9ghz w/512mb ram. no other problems with this system except the objectdock app. I also am not using any docklets nor the task piece.

Why not just download the new Object Dock version here. https://www.stardock.com/products/objectdock/ I would erase the old version first and delete the install folder it created. You might want to save your icons and backgrounds.

just did this. within 5 minutes I got the same problem. 99% cpu utlization with objectdock. killed the process and all was fine again.

As I wrote, when I click update, it stops at 60%, with the logfile saying that the size of LaST (Cobalt) Lock & Gear.png
is incorrect.

I don't trust, that after an uninstall it would install fine.

magnuje, now we're two. Tell me if you find te solution. I'll try to update though.

Please email [email protected] with complete information about the issue.

I thought ObjectDock was unsupported. Do you think Stardock would be willing to help?

"This program is provided AS-IS.
I understand that I am downloading unsupported
freeware software. That means I will not try
to obtain technical support from Stardock."

considering Karmagirl is the Operations Manager of Stardock, I think you have a good chance of getting some help

I was wondering if you did try the generic graphics engine?

Hehh, I didn't know this. I'll wait a bit until the OD+ mailstorm ends (the problem happens with OD+ as well) and write to the support.

In the meanwhile I'll try the generic graphics engine, thanks for the hint.

Karmagirl, thx for the offer, I kinda didn't get the message in time.

I have purchased and installed the latest ObjectDock + but I am still having the 100% cpu utilization issue as before and I have not been able to isolate it to anything in particular. Are others still seeing this with objectdock+

Yes, I still have this with OD+ on my win2k machine. I have read something about file handle consumption in the od newsgroup, however when this happened, I counted ~ 1750 handles in taskmanager, which was the a lot more than the other processes, still not 10000+ as others wrote.
I'll just write the mail to the support as Karmagirl suggested.

here's an update on the cpu utilization problem I have working with support on. The problem has to do with virtual desktop managers and it happens after switching virtual desktop screens several times. Support has confirmed this and is working on the issue. I am currently using Altdesk v1.5.5 and have not at this point tried a different virtual desktop manager although I know several others are out there. I just updated objectdock plus v1.02e(rc).002 today so we'll see how it goes.

I'm not running any virtual desktop managers. (I have opened this topic, so this fact might have some relevance here. )

currently running version objectdock plus 1.02e[rc].002 with virtual desktop manager and everything has been running good thus far. crossing my fingers and hooray.
