"You've been upgraded!"

Every time I open Fences, it gives me a popup message that says "You've been upgraded! We've moved you to our new multi-monitor friendly layout etc." This message is very annoying since I open Fences half a dozen times a day*. Is there any way to turn this message off?

*It's ironic because I upgraded fences for this feature, but it doesn't work. So I still have to use snapshots and now I have an EXTRA step to do that which I didn't have to do in Fences 4. Fences 6 doesn't seem to remember monitors if you are using a docking station and switch out of the laptop to a different device. I wish this was a feature too, but I will settle on getting rid of this message (or maybe getting a refund and going back to a previous version?)

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Not sure which popup message you get. Perhaps post a screenshot of that message.

On the other hand, please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

If it still happened. We need more information on your system.

  1. Windows full version and OS Build number. Please use Winver.exe.
  2. Fences 6 full version numbers installed.

Make sure your Layout management->Layout auto-adjustments setting is set at "Store my layout on a per-monitor-configuration basis".

Thank you,

Will doing that destroy the Fences I've created? If so, is there a way to back them up?

This is the message I get every time I open Fences:

The purge should not delete off your layout snapshots. It should load the latest layout when you reinstall and reboot properly after the installation is done.

But, if you wish, you can use this guide to backup your setting. https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1416429609/Backup+of+Fences+Configuration+Settings

I purged everything, then installed Fences 6 and the problem persists.  You asked for the following:

  1. Windows full version and OS Build number. Please use Winver.exe.
  2. Fences 6 full version numbers installed.

I have Windows 11 Version 24H2 (0S Build 26100.6584)

I have Fences 6.02 installed

Just to be clear, your Fences is basically working, your only problem is only on the popup message yes? Next Steps, need to know how did you open up Fences configuration?

Using right click on desktop-> Configure Fences? Something like screenshot below?

I use a docking station and a KVM switch. That means that I can press a button and swap machines with my monitor. When I swap back to my laptop, my fence configurations are lost, so actually that part is not functioning either. But I figure that the ability to remember monitors must not work with KVM switches.

The way I am opening Fences 6 is with the Start Menu shortcut:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Fences\Fences.exe" /FromStartMenu

If you use the method I mentioned above does the issue appear. And, only using the laptop without the docking station.

After rebooting, I open Fences through the method you say above (by right clicking on the desktop) and the pop up happened again.

Please try Clean boot refer here: https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1332445272/Fences+Clean+Boot. This will help to see if you are having Windows account or conflict issue with other applications.

Do know that Clean boot need to be done with some care. Try it and report back.
